Director Carina Evangelista on China Marks’s "Generations" ✨
In this work, two figures face one another: an older woman, poised and adorned with a flamboyant headpiece, and a younger woman in quiet resistance.
“Someday all of this will be yours,” the elder offers.
“What if I don’t want it?” the younger replies.
Above them, Marks writes: “The generations are like sovereign nations, each speaking a private language and worshiping a different god, complicating relations.”
Through wit and poignancy, Marks captures a deeply contemporary tension, questions of inheritance, responsibility, and the future of the planet. And yet, as Carina reminds us, they are still in conversation. That, in itself, is hope.
