You’re invited to tea! October 24, 3 pm, Unspoken Rites is sonic room built in real time from a tea ceremony. Artist Isla Vidal ISLA VIDAL treats the everyday gestures tea-making as incantation. Water poured, the kettle’s click and rising whistle, tea poured and stirred/ By treating a private ritual as a public set, Vidal asks what it means to be let into someone else’s self-soothing, and what changes in a gesture once it’s witnessed.
Isla Vidal is a vocalist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist based in Seattle. Her practice centers the voice as a primary instrument, processed, layered, and live, across solo performance, generative music, and immersive sound installation. Her EP Hija explores Cuban female ancestry and inherited memory through pop leaning songwriting and folk-rooted composition pushed into ambient and electronic territory. She is currently developing a new EP exploring electronic and ambient textures through a vocal lens.
