Check out our new monthly series: State of the Arts 🎨🎬

In this episode, Serafina, Executive Director of the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, talks about a rumored new Banksy sculpture discovered in London that is already sparking conversations around power, identity, protest, and political expression. Art has always reflected the world around us — especially in moments of cultural and political tension.

Here in Sonoma County, we have our own artists carrying that spirit forward. Artists like Velvet Bandit use their work to blend positivity, love, and political commentary in ways that invite reflection and conversation.

That’s why we’re excited for our upcoming exhibition, Resist & Persist, created in response to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The exhibition invites artists to explore freedom, resistance, expression, and what these ideas mean in today’s world.

We feel incredibly grateful to witness the work artists are creating during this moment in history. ✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up to support the festival, to our visionary directors, and to the entire community that makes this event so special.

Stay tuned for the next edition of State of the Arts with Serafina.

Weaving is more than creating something beautiful; it’s a practice in patience, focus, and slowing down. 🧶✨

Meet Marta Shannon, who has been weaving professionally since 1980 and teaching for decades. In her classes at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, students learn everything from foundational techniques to specialized weaving styles using floor looms generously provided by the Redwood Guild of Fiber Arts.

“What I love about weaving is that it’s a complete process that you really have to immerse yourself in… it leaves you no time to think about all the other stuff going on in the world.”

Whether you’re completely new to weaving or looking to deepen your craft, Marta believes weaving is for everybody.

Interested in joining a class? Visit www.sebarts.org/classes-and-events to explore upcoming weaving sessions and workshops.

An offering of love and remembrance 🤍

Cheri Lippard, a member of Dharma Hearts Sangha, has created the Jizo Peace Project - a deeply moving response to the children lost in Gaza.

With the intention of honoring every child taken too soon, hundreds of handmade Jizo figures have been created as symbols of compassion, protection, and remembrance.

This is more than an art practice - it’s a collective act of healing, grief, and love.

✨ Monthly gatherings are held at Sebastopol Center for the Arts
✨ All are welcome to join and participate
