My new Luchetti

A new sketchbook has come to our attention, courtesy of Missy Maxwell, who has taken full advantage of its unique characteristics in our Thursday Paint Out/Urban Sketch group. Luchetti makes a truly flat sketchbook with 100%cotton, 300 lb watercolor paper, 8"X8", bound gorgeously and ready to become an heirloom! It's also a bit intimidating for that very reason. Since I allow myself a generous budget for art supplies (and rarely use it!) I bought one....

Irresistible Irises with Pamela Harnois

I just finished a 2-session online workshop with Connecticut artist, Pamela Harnois, titled Irresistible Irises. I've been enjoying her wet and wonderful abstract florals on Instagram and thought maybe a bit of her painterly intuition would rub off on me. It's the old story of it looks easy when you watch her - the way she does this dance with the water and pigment, putting it on, taking it off, coaxing it to flow, wielding her Chinese calligraphy brush with relaxed control....

Palmer Gardens

On Thursday this week our Paint Out group enjoyed another idyllic property, lovingly developed by Lynne and Stet Palmer to take advantage of nature's bounty on one of the many inlets of the Puget Sound. Their garden was doing its springtime showing of foxgloves and daisies and the day was irresistibly sunny while comfortably cool. We spread out around the property to find our personal spots of serenity to sit and paint....

Albee House

The Albees are retired now but their gorgeous property which hosted numerous weddings, remains as a testament to LOVE. The Paint Out/Urban Sketchers group spread ourselves all over the gardens on Thursday, finding so many different settings for romantic portraits or heart felt sketches! Note: the logo stamp made by Missy Maxwell for our group! For Ineke it was the LOVE barn or shed....

More bloom doodling

These flowers blooming in my garden right now came inside with me and I thought I should check on their names. I mean bluebells and daisies of course, neither of which I myself planted. There's the botanical names - campanula persicifolia or campanula rotundifolia and leucanthemum maximum, and max chrysanthemum. But then there are those that hint at location, like meadowbell, harebell, Shasta daisy, Daisy of Alaska, Willow bellflower, Peach-bells....

Tenino Time Machine

Tenino is a likable small town not far from Olympia, known for its stone quarry and train depot - a town that loves its history even as it moves into the current age. The Tenino Bank still looks like a bank, but now houses the Chiropractic and Wellness Center. There was a constant rumble of traffic down the main street where the Paint Out group of sketchers lined the sidewalks, capturing the storefronts....
