Tenino Time Machine

Tenino is a likable small town not far from Olympia, known for its stone quarry and train depot - a town that loves its history even as it moves into the current age. The Tenino Bank still looks like a bank, but now houses the Chiropractic and Wellness Center. This and that – grab a sketch!

Return of the Enso

Inks on watercolor paper: Daler Rowney and Higgins Eternal Black Some water and ink play. Pick a shape, like the eternal enso, symbol of the Zen mind. Load up a big brush with water and apply with a flourish. Make sure it's plenty wet so the ink will move. Use the dropper or a pipette - a little goes a long way - to charge the ink colors into the wet surface....

Backyard sketching and more birds

Warm day + back yard patio + hummingbird feeder + Japanese Maple. I put my feet up to elevate the knee, and started a sketch. It's officially my "recovery" spot, and a lovely one at that. My Annas hummingbird friend was nowhere in sight, giving me time to sketch the scene. Meanwhile my friend Lisa Genuit was out birding at our nearby , Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, photographing some less frequent visitors that I have yet to see "in person".

While recovering. . .birds

Two weeks into recovery from my fall, I have been propping up my injured knee on a cushion while sitting at my studio table with the view of the bird feeders. In that position I can sit and draw and paint for a half hour or so, enough for a quick sketch of some sort....

Kwansan at the Capitol

fineliner and watercolor in Zeta Series Carnet de Croquis sketchbook The second round of cherry tree blossoms brought the sketchers out to the Capitol grounds again last week. Another sunny day to show off the Kwansans this time, frilly in their pink pom pom dresses. I was not feeling well enough to stay and set up my stool for the onsite painting, but took pictures and gave it a try at home later.
