🐘 Museum Menagerie 🐘
"Museum Menagerie" brings the animal kingdom indoors. Drawn entirely from the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s permanent collection, it features works in a variety of media, including sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints, and more. This exhibition explores how artists have used their artistic expressions to observe and reimagine animals as companions, symbols, and interpretations of the natural world.
From intimate studies to imaginative portrayals, "Museum Menagerie" invites visitors of all ages to look closely at the relationship between humans and animals, and how that enduring fascination is translated through art. Together, these works celebrate the artistic practice in portraying the beauty, character, and presence of these denizens of the wild places.
🏛 From the Archives: Forms in Bronze 🏛
"From the Archives: Forms in Bronze" brings together a selection of bronze sculptures from the museum’s archives for a special pop-up exhibit on view 4 June – 28 June 2026. Spanning a range of styles, subjects, and periods, the exhibition highlights the enduring beauty and expressive power of bronze as a medium. From delicate mythological figures to dynamic Western scenes, these works invite visitors to explore craftsmanship, movement, and storytelling through sculpture, while offering a unique glimpse into old favorites from the museum’s collection.

Happy 🦦 Today, we celebrate our fluffy, webb-footed friends. In their honor, here are a few fun facts you may not have known about them:

1. Otters often hold hands while floating on their backs. Hand-holding keeps otters from drifting away from one another and their food source while they sleep.

2. Baby otters usually are called pups. They can also be called kits or kittens.

3. Female otters are sows, and males are boars.

4. Sea otters don't just have the densest fur of all otter species—they have the densest fur of all animals. Sea otters have as many as 2.6 million hairs per square inch. That makes it about a thousand times more dense than human hair.
