The Somerville Historical Society held their meeting today with 8 members present.

Nominations were completed, and the 2026–2027 officers were elected and sworn in.

The Members of the Somerville Historical Society wish to send a message of LOVE 💗💕❤️ and Thanksgiving to all Mothers — Past, Present, and Future — on this special Sunday, Mother’s Day.

May your day be filled with joy, precious memories, family, laughter, and the love you so richly deserve.

Thank you to the mothers who came before us, the mothers guiding families today, and the future mothers who will continue the legacy of love and strength.

The Somerville Historical Museum was open on May 7 to welcome the 3rd and 4th grade students from Somerville Elementary School.

We truly enjoyed having the children visit the museum and hope they had a wonderful time learning about the history of Somerville and our community. Seeing young students explore, ask questions, and connect with the past is always a special experience for us.

Thank you to the teachers, staff, and students for visiting. We loved having you!

A big thank-you to everyone for your generous donations to the Somerville Historical Museum.

A special thank-you to Lyons Agricultural Extension Center for their donation and continued support of preserving our local history.

We also sincerely thank Joyce Lewis for donating a treasured picture of Somerville Elementary School (1905–1965).

A little history to share:
• Somerville Elementary served students from first through eighth grades.
• Kindergarten had not yet been established.
• The school had eight teachers who not only taught academics, but also made sure children learned to sing and practice good hygiene, including brushing their teeth.
• The cafeteria was located on the second floor.
• The high school was located to the left of the elementary building.

These wonderful contributions help keep Somerville’s history alive for future generations.

meeting will be Monday, April 12th at 4:15 pm. The community is invited to attend.

Last month, nominations were opened for the 2026–2027 officers. Members present were encouraged to consider who might be willing to serve in these important roles. Our hope is to announce the new officers at this month’s meeting.

We will also be present to share a report on the electric bill, along with findings and recommendations.
