Road To Revolution Series ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

"Good God, what brave fellows I must this day lose!" โ€” George Washington, watching his men retreat during the Battle of Brooklyn, 250 years ago this week.

His men were trapped, the East River at their backs, defeat looking certain.

Did you know the Southampton Militia may have been there too? They'd been sent off escorting cattle near Hempstead just as the British broke through the lightly defended Jamaica Pass, a gap that helped turn the entire battle.

What happened next a foggy night, a silent retreat, and an army saved to fight another day- is one of the most dramatic turns of the Revolution.

๐ŸŒŸ A heartfelt thank you to our Museum Curator, Stephen Gould, for his extraordinary work and dedication, which has made our new exhibition, Stephen Sayre's American Revolution, possible.

In many ways, this exhibition is the story of two Southampton Stephens; one who helped shape history, and the other who dedicated himself to telling that story.

To commemorate this milestone, we presented Stephen with an engraved tankard honoring his work.

๐Ÿ’– Thank you, Stephen, for your passion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to uncovering and sharing our community's stories.
