🏆 MEET THE CLASS OF 2026: DEAN BERRY 🏆

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is proud to welcome Columbia youth sports leader Dean Berry into the Class of 2026!

In 1992, Berry—owner of Hager Radiator Shop—founded the Columbia Youth Basketball Association to give local children an opportunity to play basketball in a recreational environment.

With support from his wife, Lori, along with Columbia College’s Bob Burchard (MSHOF 2013), Ann Forgy and Lynn Allen, the organization grew from 40 fourth-graders playing in a rented church gym into Mid-Missouri’s premier recreational basketball league.

Today, the league serves more than 1,000 players across 100 teams annually. Its partnerships with Columbia Public Schools, Columbia Parks and Recreation and the Day Dreams Foundation allow games to be played in high school, college and church gyms throughout the city. Berry also created a scholarship program to ensure financial hardship would not prevent children from participating.

Berry stepped aside in 2025 after 33 years of leadership, leaving behind an organization that has helped develop future varsity athletes—and, even more importantly, given generations of children confidence that carries far beyond the court.

Join us in celebrating Dean Berry and his remarkable impact on youth sports at the Columbia Enshrinement!

🏆 MEET THE CLASS OF 2026: DICK HALTERMAN 🏆

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is proud to welcome accomplished basketball coach Dick Halterman into the Class of 2026!

A former 1,000-point scorer at Northeast-Cairo High School, Halterman went on to build an extraordinary coaching career spanning the high school, junior college and NCAA Division I levels. His teams earned an impressive 656 victories.

At Wheeling High School, Halterman compiled a 110-11 record from 1974 to 1978. His 1975 team captured the Class 1 state championship, while the 1977 team placed third and the 1978 team also reached the state tournament.

He continued his success at Moberly Area Community College, leading the program to a 144-21 record, the 1981 national runner-up finish and the 1982 NJCAA national championship.

During his 19 seasons at Oklahoma State, Halterman earned 350 victories and guided the Cowgirls to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 1991. His teams also won the 1990 and 1991 Big Eight Conference Tournaments and claimed the 1991 regular-season championship.

Halterman later coached at Cameron University and served as an assistant golf coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis from 2015 to 2024.

Join us in celebrating Dick Halterman and his remarkable coaching legacy at the Columbia Enshrinement!
