Fort Dobbs State Historic Site Our mission is to preserve the site of Fort Dobbs and interpret NC's French and Indian War history. For certain events and field trips, a small fee may apply.

Note: the grounds and visitor center are free to visit on normal operating days and for some special events. The reconstructed fort is open for tours every 45 minutes between 9:30am - 11:45am and 1:00pm - 4:00pm, Tuesday-Saturday. As of August 1, 2025, guided tour fees are as follows:
-Adults (18-64): $5
-Seniors (65+), Military: $4
-Youth (3-17): $1

In the 18th century the manufacturing of flintlock weapons was of high importance not only as an implement of war but for hunting as well. The gunsmith who made and repaired muskets and pistols would need the skills of both a joiner and blacksmith in order to complete his work. According to the 1747 issue of "the London Tradesmen" journeymen in this trade could expect to make as much as fifteen shillings a week. Fort Dobbs will be showcasing this trade at our upcoming event on June 20th. As we get closer to our Historic Trades Day, we will highlight a few of the important trades that will be showcased at this year's event.

Fort Dobbs will be reopen to the p***c on Friday May 29th, 2026. Our first guided tour of the day will begin at 10:00am.
