Artist Spotlight: “Romantic Academia” by Hannah Henson

🎨 Hannah Henson has been creating for as long as she can remember. As a child she was always drawing, imagining, daydreaming, and carrying art supplies everywhere she went. Art became both an escape and a way to support her mental health, but more than anything she loves creating things people can use and surround themselves with. Pieces that feel good to look at. Proof that imagination can become something real through your own hands. For her, creativity is spiritual, wearable, and deeply personal.

🌸 “Romantic Academia” blends personal style with painting and sculptural techniques. At first glance it is simply beautiful, but the longer you look, the more it reveals a story about the girl who wears them. She is a reader who escapes into fairy tales and warm cups of tea. She sets the scene before she opens a book and immerses herself fully in whatever she loves. She notices details and takes her time with them. She wears her romanticism openly, displaying her story on her hands. Through that expression she meets others, inspires others, and continues a loop of creativity, storytelling, and connection. Or, as Hannah says, it can simply be a cute set of nails.

📚 These nails were hand painted and sculpted using UV gel mediums. Every element is created by hand, including the “print” made from actual words from classic tales like Little Women, The Velveteen Rabbit, and The Little Mermaid. The tea cup, book tab, bookmark, rose petals, and miniature book sculptures were formed from moldable UV gel. Other nails feature advanced techniques such as isolated chrome and hand painted roses. Each detail reflects patience, craftsmanship, and the joy of storytelling through wearable art.

From flowers in her yard to memories of her mom, Anita Stewart’s latest painting is becoming something deeply personal. 🌸🎨

As part of our Thursday Open Studio, Anita is creating an acrylic piece inspired by her mother’s love for flowers and sewing. By adding sewing patterns into the artwork, she is connecting family memories, creativity, and the things that continue to inspire her today.

“This is about my mom. My mom loves flowers and she loved to sew.”

What makes this piece even more special is how the conversation during Open Studio helped shape new ideas for the artwork. Sharing stories, memories, and creative processes together is one of the things that makes our studio community so meaningful. 💛

We can’t wait to see how this beautiful piece continues to grow!

Artist Spotlight: “I’ll Have the Flan Please” by Debra Marie Barnhart

🕊️ “I’ll Have the Flan Please” captures a playful and unexpected moment during Debra Marie Barnhart’s National Geographic Tours trip to Costa Rica. After a boat tour through the Tamarindo Wildlife Sanctuary, Debra and her group stopped for an outdoor lunch by the water. As they stood to leave, a bold and curious White Throated Magpie Jay landed on the table and began foraging through the plates. Its stance over a half eaten flan was too perfect to ignore, and Debra photographed the moment with her Nikon Z7ii and 100 to 400 mm lens. The bird’s personality, confidence, and humor made the image unforgettable.

Debra is a full time artist living in Suwanee Georgia, and her studio home is Tannery Row Artist Colony in Buford. The colony is a collective of twenty artists with active gallery spaces and two juried exhibitions each year. Originally from New Jersey, Debra spent many years working in the advertising industry in New York City, where she gained exposure to galleries, museums, and art schools. She earned a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Montclair State University and continued her studies at Atlanta School of Photography, Atlanta Photography Group, the New York Institute of Photography, and Penland School of Craft.

Her photography has been exhibited at Atlanta Photography Group and the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, where she won third place in the portrait category in 2022. She also exhibits regularly at Tannery Row Artist Colony and Suwanee Arts Center. Her work reflects curiosity, observation, and a love for the small surprising moments that reveal the character of the natural world.
