Friends of the E.D. White Historic Site is excited to share that we received a 2025 Emergency Readiness Grant from the State of Louisiana and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities to support important improvements to the Visitor Center and storage facility!

With this funding, storm shutters were installed at the Visitor Center, and repairs and upgrades were made to our storage building. This helps protect historic materials, equipment, and visitor spaces from severe Louisiana weather.

“This grant is an important investment in the future of the E.D. White Historic Site,” said Pamela T. Folse, President of the Friends of the E.D. White Historic Site. “We are grateful to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for helping ensure this historic place remains protected and accessible for generations to come.”

Check out the before, during, and after photos made possible by all involved, from the funding to the physical repairs of our site. Thank you for helping us preserve Louisiana history!

We’d also like to share a special thank-you to The Honorable Chief Justice John L. Weimer, III for joining us at Oaks & Origins and bringing our history to life “under the oaks.”

His presentation, “A Chat with the Chief,” invited us to step back in time, hear the stories that shaped Bayou Lafourche, and celebrate the people and moments that built our community over the last 200 years.

We’re grateful for the insight, warmth, and deep local knowledge he shared. It added something truly unforgettable to this Bicentennial celebration.

Thank you, Chief Justice Weimer, for helping us honor the past and carry its stories forward.

✨ THANK YOU THIBODAUX! 200 YEARS AND GOING STRONG ✨

As Oaks & Origins weekend comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in celebrating two centuries of history, culture, and community under the oaks.

From the flag raising and the moving gun salute, to the words shared by the Chief Justice and our honored guest speakers, the opening ceremony set the tone for a celebration worthy of this Bicentennial milestone.

Throughout the day, live music, cultural demonstrations, historical presentations, local vendors, and family-friendly activities brought our shared story to life.

To our sponsors, partners, volunteers, vendors, musicians, reenactors, and every family who came out to learn, connect, and celebrate... thank you. Your presence and support made this event unforgettable.

And to our incredible collaborators: Louisiana State Museums, Louisiana's Cajun Bayou, and Explore Louisiana, thank you for helping us honor this historic anniversary and share the story of our region with pride.

We were honored to close the day with a special tree planting, symbolizing the roots we share and the legacy we continue to grow for generations to come. Here’s to the next 200 years of honoring our past and inspiring our future. 🌳✨
