June 27th is your next opportunity to learn the craft of basket weaving. Join us to craft a French Bread Basket. At 14" in length, this basket perfectly holds many baked goods, not solely bread. This class will be led by instructor, Nancy Duffie, who is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with you from over 30 years of basket weaving experience.

He’s back! Hart Square Foundation is pleased to announce that Camren Champion has returned for a summer internship again this year. Camren’s focus will be on site maintenance and historic preservation. We anticipate that many roof repairs will be completed with his assistance!

Square dancing is an oral tradition that has been passed down for hundreds of years. A dance caller will lead you throughout the evening as you learn to do-si-do, promenade, and swing your partner! Whether you are a beginner or seasoned dancer, come join us for a lovely evening of live music and dancing, where you will be supported every step of the way.

Did you join us to weave a footstool last month? If so, now it’s time to cane your own chair! Step back in time to learn the early Appalachian skill of “bottoming chairs.” You’ll learn to weave a reed seat in the herringbone pattern, with a chair frame and all other materials provided.

This summer when you visit Hart Square Village, you might encounter a dendrochronology team from Appalachian State University. The time period of the cabins that comprise Hart Square Village has been determined by architectural characteristics, oral and written history. Through the study of tree rings, we’ll learn the exact year that the trees were felled that were used to build our historic cabins!
