🥛 June is National Dairy Month! 🥛

Before modern automated dairy systems, machines like the Surge Milker helped make milking cows faster, cleaner, and more efficient.

The Surge Milker used a vacuum system to gently draw milk from cows. This meant farmers didn’t have to milk by hand as much and could manage larger herds. Innovations like this changed dairy farming and helped Tulare County’s dairy industry grow.

🥛 June is National Dairy Month! 🥛

An important tool found on early dairies was the cream separator.

Before modern dairies, farmers used machines like this one to separate cream from milk. The separator quickly spun the milk, separating the lighter cream from the heavier skim milk. This made it easy to collect both and use them for different dairy products.

Tools like the cream separator helped dairy farmers work more efficiently and played an important role in the growth of Tulare County's dairy industry.

Dairy farming has been an important part of Tulare County's agricultural story for generations. What began as small dairy herds and hand milking has grown into one of the nation's leading dairy-producing regions.

From the early days of manual milking and horse-drawn milk wagons to today's advanced milking systems, the Dairy Exhibit in the Farm Labor and Agriculture Museum showcases artifacts such as vintage milking equipment, photographs, and interactive displays highlighting the people, animals, and innovations that helped shape this important local industry.

Rockets launched and Eagles landed at the museum today! 🚀🦅

We welcomed students from Veva Blunt Elementary and Linwood Elementary for a day of exploring Tulare County history through the museum’s exhibits and historic buildings.

The museum was filled with curiosity, great questions, and plenty of “3rd Grade Rockstar” energy along the way. ⭐

Today, we celebrate the power of museums to bridge gaps and bring people together. Established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums, International Museum Day recognizes the important role museums play in preservation, education, and cultural exchange around the world.

This year’s theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” highlights the ways museums can connect communities through shared history and understanding.

At the Tulare County Museum, we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of our region and the many communities that helped shape Tulare County. From historic buildings and artifacts to exhibits and educational programs, our goal is to help visitors connect with the diverse histories that make our region unique.
