ALL ABOARD ! On Father's Day, Sunday, June 21st, impress Dad with the unique gift and unforgettable experience of a ride aboard the Whippany Railway Museum's historic, vintage train - a fun afternoon with cherished family and friends !

Step back in time at Whippany where a larger-than-life train awaits to whisk you back through the years on a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip ride along the "Whippanong Trail". Morris County, New Jersey is often called the "Crossroads of the Revolution", and when you ride a Whippany Railway Museum excursion train this year, you will travel the country that General George Washington's armies trod in the winters of 1777 and 1779 - an area rich in our Nation's history.

Passengers can combine the experience of riding the train along with touring the Museum site, featuring an outstanding collection of historic railroad locomotives, rolling stock, artifacts and an operating model train layout. All passengers will receive a special commemorative keepsake, while supplies last.

Deacon's All American Hotdog will be on site selling hots dogs and other food items! Check them out before or after your ride with us!

t was 50 Years Ago Today - April 1, 1976 (a Thursday), when the face of railroading in the Northeastern United States was changed forever with the startup of Conrail, which took over the operations of six bankrupt rail carriers: Penn Central, Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Central Railroad Company of New Jersey, Reading Company, and the Lehigh & Hudson River Railway.

Three photos are attached, taken by Denville, NJ resident (the late) Bill Young. Bill captured a series of views in the early years of Conrail trains passing through his hometown on former Erie Lackawanna (ex-DL&W) trackage.

In the days following the startup, Conrail placed ads in newspapers throughout the Northeast proclaiming: "Announcing ConRail. A better way to run a railroad." (note the original spelling of ConRail - for Consolidated Rail Corporation).

Fifty-one years ago, on February 22, 1975, the Morris County Central Railroad operated it's first "Snowflake Special" excursion train out of its new location at Newfoundland, NJ west to Beaver Lake, NJ and return. While there wasn't any snow to be found, the excursion was an immediate sell-out and was repeated the next day, February 23rd to accommodate all those that requested tickets. Note the $5.00 ticket prices (about $30. today) stated on the accompanying flyer. www.WhippanyRailwayMuseum

Two photos attached taken about 5 hours apart earlier today , January 25th as a heavy snowfall was coming down throughout the region. Here in our little corner of Eastern Morris County (NJ) you can see the view taken from our live stream camera of the progression of the snowfall. Note that No. 385's "Morris County Central" tender lettering (on the left of shot) is in full view from earlier this morning, but by 2:14pm on the same day, the camera's view of the tender is nearly blocked by the snow piling up. It's all starting to change to sleet now... Stay home - Stay Safe !
