Cape Fear Museum Preserving the history, science and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear. A New Hanover County agency. Over the years, the Museum has grown and changed.

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science's founding collection dates to 1898. It began collecting confederate relics, and now collects images and artifacts that help us understand the history, science and cultures of the region and is the regional science center for school groups and families. Cape Fear Museum is a department of New Hanover County.

The Giant Ground Sloth (Eremotherium eomigrans) roamed the Americas during the late Pliocene through the early-to-middle Pleistocene Epoch between 2.6 million to 600,000 years ago! ⏳ Our very own sloth skeleton replica is modeled after fossils discovered right off Randall Parkway! 🦴✨

This giant isn't related to the tree sloths we know and love today 🌳🦥 but that's not stopping us from celebrating anyway, because today is International Sloth Day!

The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo) kicked off their annual Sloth Month campaign, better known as Slothtober! 🍂🦥 To raise awareness and share ways you can help support wild sloth conservation. 💚🌿Visit slothconservation.org for more information!
