The National Dinosaur Museum is situated in Canberra, Australia's capital city. One of the premier tourist attractions in the area, the museum was established in 1993 and since then has grown into one of the largest permanent displays of dinosaur and prehistoric fossil material in Australia. New exhibits include 12 life-like animatronic dinosaurs and 20+ realistic replicas. There has never been a better time to visit the museum than at the moment!

Oviraptors are most famous for fossilised remains preserving them incubating their eggs. Recent research suggests that just like emus, it may have been the father who incubated the nest, suggesting that Dino dad's played a key role in nest protection! 🥚

As like in the time of the Dinosaurs, paternal care is so important in bringing up young and we thank all the dads out there doing their best to be the best Father they can be!

Congratulations to all our winners!!! - Aleksandar, Owen James, Edwin Comer and Scott Taylor.

An even bigger thank you is owed to every single diorama creator who all managed to exceed expectations and make this very very very hard on the judges. You are all officially the greatest Dino fans of them all. 🦕🦖💗

We hope each and every participant had a fun and engaging time making these beautiful pieces of science!

Jurassic Bark is this Saturday! 🐕‍🦺🦖

Come celebrate with a beautiful morning stroll amongst the Dinosaurs at the National Dinosaur Museum Garden!

📆 Saturday, August 29th, 2026, | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM

🎟️ FREE entry to Dino Garden and NDM Gift Shop during the event! (Donations warmly welcomed for RSPCA ACT!)

Important details for attendees:

🦮 All dogs must always remain on a leash while at the museum. This is strictly a dog (and dinos) -only event.

🧹 Doggie bags and bins will be available throughout the area.

🐾 All donations go directly toward supporting the animals at RSPCA ACT.

🐕‍🦺 Please note that dogs are not allowed indoors (exemption for service dogs). Our friendly staff will be available to look after your pooches on the Dino deck while you explore the gift shop.

Hidden downstairs in our workshop was this very cool cast of an Edmontosaurus sub-adult!!

All it needed was just a little care and repair from our amazing NDM team who do their best to upkeep the gallery displays everyday.🦖

Celebrate National Science Week 2026 with the National Dinosaur Museum! 🦖🔍

Build your very own 3D dinosaur diorama and stand a chance to win exclusive prizes from the museum. 🤩

This competition is all about showcasing your creativity & science knowledge to craft an epic prehistoric scene. 4 different age groups, with unique prizes for the winner of each category.

It's very easy to enter : Fill out a quick online form via our website, social media bio, or by scanning our QR code and upload your diorama photos/video. Don't forget to add a unique title and description for your masterpiece !✨

Submissions are open 1st of August 2026 to 23rd of August 2026. Winners to be announced at the end of the month!

All our Dinos at the Museum have unfortunately had to go to bed early today due to a power outage. We apologise to all our lovely friends who were looking forward to visiting us today.

We will be issuing refunds to those who have bought tickets online through our website. Please contact [email protected] for any further assistance or questions.

Hopefully the power will be back on tomorrow and the gates will open at 10AM to 5PM.

Dino Excursion Day!! 🦖🔍🦴

Last week Shannon, our lead tour guide went down south to Garran Primary School for their annual STEM FEST to talk about the fascinating study of paleontology to the wonderful year 5s and 6s.

NDM'S "Dinos at School" is a program where we bring the museum to you!🦴

It includes a 30 minute to 1 hour session where students of all grades can learn the different aspects of paleontology, the Earth's evolution, get to feel and closely observe real and replica fossils from the museum's collection AND most importantly how their favourite subjects can contribute to paleontology to encourage future generations in the field! 🧐🔍

It's safe to say Shannon stole the show as we've been bombarded with amazing feedback from students, teachers and parents alike. We hope to be invited back and we look forward to visiting your school too!! 🦖
