ArtOnPaper is pleased to introduce Pierre Bismuth to its Advisory Board.

French artist and filmmaker Pierre Bismuth (b. 1963) explores the systems that shape how we perceive the world. Through humour, appropriation, and recontextualisation, his multidisciplinary practice questions authority, legitimacy, and value in contemporary culture.

Bismuth is best known as the co-author of the Academy Award–winning screenplay for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), and as the director of Where Is Rocky II? (2016).

His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Centre Pompidou, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, and Kunsthalle Wien. Based in Brussels, he is represented by Jan Mot and Christine König.

Art fairs have a dual role: they are both commercial platforms that connect galleries and collectors, and spaces where the public can engage with art.

ArtOnPaper brings these two dimensions together, with a special focus on works on paper and drawing mediums that are approachable while carrying a strong artistic tradition.

A key priority of the fair is to reach and engage diverse audiences. Our goal is that every visitor whether an art professional or discovering the fair for the first time finds something meaningful and enriching.

Art on Paper 2024 brought together galleries, artists, collectors, and visitors at the Gare Maritime in Brussels, a setting whose industrial scale gave the works room to assert themselves.

The edition was marked by sustained dialogue between historical positions and emerging practices, across carefully composed presentations that foregrounded the medium in its full range.

Drawing on ten years of expertise, the 2026 edition builds from that foundation, asserting paper not as a secondary support, but as a primary site of artistic inquiry, and affirming Brussels as a critical space for its ongoing discourse.
