🌕 Tonight, there will be a Blue Micromoon. But will it actually be blue? 🤔

A “blue moon” isn’t really about colour—it typically refers to the second Full Moon in a single calendar month, a relatively rare event that occurs about every two to three years. Traditionally, the term can also refer to the third full moon in a season with four Full Moons. This rarity is what gives rise to the phrase “once in a blue moon.” In this case, the Moon is also at its farthest point from Earth, so it will appear smaller in the sky, a phenomenon known as a micromoon.

⬆️Look up tonight or early tomorrow, the full moon peaks at 4:45 a.m. EDT 👀

🚀 in 2008, a piece of Canada landed on Mars. 🛰️

On May 25, the Phoenix Mars Lander touched down in the Arctic region of Mars, carrying Canadian technology to the planet for the very first time.

On board was a Canadian-built weather station that measured temperature, pressure, and clouds—and even helped confirm something incredible: it snows on Mars! ❄️

A small piece of Canada, making big discoveries on another planet. 🍁🪐

✈️ 80 years ago today… a Canadian classic took flight. 🐿️

On May 22, 1946, the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk made its first flight, marking the beginning of a new era in pilot training. Designed as a successor to the de Havilland Tiger Moth, the Chipmunk offered a more modern, reliable platform for training the next generation of pilots in both the RCAF and RAF.

It also made history as the first Canadian-designed aircraft to be built abroad under license—more were produced overseas than in Canada. Even Prince Philip trained on one in 1952, and the aircraft later became a favourite among aerobatic pilots.

Our own de Havilland Canada DHC-1B-2 Chipmunk, built in 1956, trained RCAF pilots across the country before joining our collection in 1972.
