Welcome to the unpredictable life of a wildness surveyor in 1970’s British Columbia! 🌲

Presenting Bears, Guns and Leeches: A Surveyor’s Odyssey, Patrick recounts a remarkable series of true stories from his years working deep in the forests and remote frontiers of Western Canada. From the rugged Caribou region to the wild islands of Haida Gwaii, our author recounts treacherous terrain, eccentric characters, and stories balanced between comedy and danger. 🐻

Beginning Tomorrow 🧡

September 30th is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

Exclusively open for only 3 days, this specially-curated exhibition “takes over” of the history of Qualicum Beach. Behind the natural beauty of our seaside community lies a deep and troubling history of the First Peoples of this land.

From the history of Residential Schools, to the beginning of Truth and Reconciliation, and everything before, between, and ahead – lets use this time to reflect, learn, and ask questions.

This year’s special addition to the conversation are reflections from Qualicum First Nation poet Spuqwiye’, scattered throughout the exhibit.

On display Wednesday September 30th – Friday October 2nd.

Walk. Listen. Learn. 🧡

Please join us for a community gathering and walk in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Gather at ts’xwelikwshenawtxw, 124 West 2nd Avenue, Qualicum Beach, for tea, coffee, conversation and reflection.

12:30 p.m. We will walk together from ts’xwelikwshenawtxw to Qualicum Beach Town Hall, where Chief Mugalease (Michael Recalma) of Qualicum First Nation and Mayor Teunis Westbroek will share words with the community.

1 p.m. The walk will continue together to the Qualicum Beach Museum, where Chief Mugalease (Michael Recalma) will offer final words.

As we walk together may we carry what we learn and remember beyond this day - into stronger relationships, deeper understanding, and the future we shape together.

The Xwe'etay/Lasqueti Archaeology Project team have been busy, weaving together the past and present.

Guided by Coast Salish partners from around the Salish Sea, project leads Dana and Sean will present how the archaeological findings on the Xwe'etay Lasqueti Island can protect Indigenous Heritage into the future.

Join them on Thursday September 24th, at 2:30 p.m. at St Stephen's United Church, 150 Village Way.
