Welcome to Musée Ukraina Museum! What has evolved on Avenue M - Sister Theodosia Lane, is a centre for religious and cultural life.

Located in a heritage district of Saskatoon where, in early days, the area was populated with a kaleidoscope of new immigrants to Canada. Located next to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, MUM offers tours highlighting the rich Ukrainian Eastern Byzantine rite architecture, as well as the art and iconography which beautifies the church. Our Galleries showcase the cultural and historic story of the Ukrainian people displaying a sample of the 20,000 plus treasures within the Museum's collection of traditional Ukrainian folk art and artifacts. Across the street, the Ukrainian Sisters of St. Joseph Shrine of the Venerable Nun Martyrs Olympia and Laurentia, contributes to the strength of this destination area. Yes, there are two Ukrainian Museums in Saskatoon! Both of which share the purpose of education and preservation in their own special and dedicated way.

The Museum fence project is near completion!

This fencing project accomplishes two objectives for the Museum. The first being installation of decorative fencing that was intended at the time of construction. The second is to protect our investment in the facility which has witnessed a change in the dynamics of activities in the area.
A significant donation has been made to the Museum to fund this important project, but, more funds are needed for things such as secure locks, power washing the area and removal of graffiti.

At this time, we are asking for your consideration in donating to the fence project. Charity receipts will be issued.

October 1 is the Feastday of Pokrova - the Protection of the Mother of God. Покрова Пресвятої Богоридиці.

In the icon for this day, the Blessed Mother holds a rushnyk (ritual towel) in her outstretched arms above the people in a gesture of protection.

During the early days of the invasion of Ukraine, there was a call to 'Close the Sky' - to protect the people and to preserve their heritage. We are still waiting for the powers-that-be to show courage in standing up to the tyrant who continues to attack and destroy.

In our Feature Gallery rushnyky are draped above us, and our collection displayed there to symbolicly 'Close the Sky' and to protect.

𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐔𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡

On September 7th, 1891 the first Ukrainian immigrants arrived in Canada. These early settlers laid the foundation for Ukrainian life in Canada.

This week Saskatchewan also celebrates 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬!

Ukrainians have a long and colourful history which impacted the lives of our early settlers who were one of the founding peoples of the Saskatchewan prairies. We celebrate our birthplace, traditions, practices and beliefs.

Shown is part of our prairie life display. Our early immigrants came from an agricultural lifestyle and developed their farmland as they knew how. They had to adapt to the new harsh and unfamiliar surroundings, making their own tools and implements as they used in Ukraine.

Join MUM as we strive to preserve our rich traditions, stories and spirit. Ukrainian culture lives on - not just as a memory; Ukrainian heritage lives on through art, education, language and tradition.

We especially recognize the importance of preserving and sharing Ukrainian culture during this time of displacement and the unprovoked invasion by russia attempting to destroy Ukrainian identity and culture.

𝐴 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑓𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑏𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑜𝑛 𝑆𝑒𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 14.

This feastday commemorates the finding of the True Cross on which Jesus was crucified. It was found by St. Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land, in 326AD.

In this image, Empress Helena, wearing the crown and holding the cross, stands alongside the Patriarch of Antioch, Macarius. The cross is elevated for veneration by the faithful.

This large religious artpiece originated in the now decommissioned Exaltation of the Holy Cross church in Hubbard, Saskatchewan and is now on display in the Ecclesiastical gallery at Musée Ukraina Museum. Sadly, there is some obvious damage to the canvas.

It was painted by the Winnipeg-based Ukrainian artist and iconographer, Hnat Sich in 1918.

Ukrainian settlers arrived in the Hubbard area (SE of Ituna) in 1903 from the western county region of Stryi, south of Lviv, in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains.

Who remembers the 'Doors Open Saskatoon' - a day of touring heritage locations in Saskatoon?

These papers, found deep in the MUM cabinets, are from The StarPhoenix, Friday, May 26, 2006. Twenty years ago! MUM was still at the 202 Ave M location.

Just so you know ... our doors are still open! Sundays 11:30am-3:30pm and, by special arrangement.

At the call of Musée Ukraina Museum Board of Directors President, Anna Mycyk, the Museum Annual General meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday July 29 at 6 PM at the Museum; 222 Avenue M South - Sister Theodosia Lane, Saskatoon, SK.

This Meeting will review reports and the audited financial statement for the period ending December 31, 2025. A revised version of the Musée Ukraina Museum (MUM) Bylaws shall also be presented for approval at this Annual General Meeting.

Eligible voters are those who have registered as MUM Members for the 2025 year prior to December 31, 2025.

If you haven't yet, please consider purchasing Museum Membership for 2026 at this time.
