History of Sandstone Block Pavers

The City of Saskatoon purchased rectangular blocks of sandstone in 1912 to pave steeply sloping street approaches to the Traffic Bridge, providing more secure footing for the horses used for transportation of people and goods.

Come and explore the documents from the Kettle River Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Learn about the bidding process, contracts and locations where the pavers were used. Two of the pavers will be on display.
