Meet textile artist in residence, Camille Richart, at Colaisde na Gàidhlig / The Gaelic College during Unama'ki Cape Breton Craft Week 🧶✨

Coming from Montréal, Camille Richart’s work uses the medium of textiles as a vessel to interrogate our relationship with the environment. Camille has been integrating plastic waste into weaving, her preferred medium, where pattern and material reveal themselves thread by thread. Camille’s work is part of a conscious and committed approach aimed at repurposing materials.

Throughout the week, visitors are invited into the weaving studio to see Camille’s textile practice unfold in real time exploring weaving, fibre traditions, slow making, and the connections between craft, culture, and community.

Join us for this special Mini Moccasin Keychain Workshop with Mi’kmaw artist, Char Lafford 🧡

Using generations of knowledge passed down through family, Elders and community, Char will guide participants through creating their own mini moccasin keychain while sharing stories, skills, and the importance of cultural connection through craft. 🪶🧵

Char’s work is rooted in traditional Mi’kmaw arts including hide work, beadwork, quillwork, basket-making, regalia, and drum-making. Passionate about keeping traditions alive, she believes strongly in sharing knowledge with future generations through hands-on learning and community.

We're so excited to welcome Rachel Hunt to the Centre and Gallery Shop as one of our new professional artists 😍💍

Rachel is a goldsmith based in Sydney working in solid gold and silver using traditional hand fabrication techniques. Rachel’s work is genuinely handmade: no computers, no castings.

Starting from pure gold and silver, she alloys, melts, hammers, and coaxes metal into form by hand. From design to setting stones, each step happens in her studio. It’s a slow, deliberate process, and she thinks that’s exactly the point. That sensibility shapes everything she makes: pieces that feel both modern and timeless, built to last a lifetime and then some.

Drop by the Gallery Shop and see her amazing work in-person! ✨
