'Ibrahim Yusuf Mamudu is a Nigerian-born contemporary artist based in Vancouver, working primarily in acrylic on canvas. His practice is rooted in surrealism, imagination, dreams, and visual storytelling.
Inspired by dreams, memories, nature, animals, cartoons, and classic cinema, Ibrahim creates imaginative worlds where the familiar becomes unexpected. His paintings often combine human and animal forms, symbolic objects, and dreamlike environments to explore themes of love, relationships, nature, kindness, aging, and the human experience.
For Ibrahim, surrealism is a way of seeing beyond the boundaries of ordinary reality. Rather than giving viewers a single answer, his paintings invite them to pause, interpret, and discover their own stories within the work.
His goal is to transform ideas that exist in the imagination into tangible visual experiences—creating paintings that can be playful, mysterious, emotional, and thought-provoking. Each canvas becomes a doorway into a world where reality and imagination meet, and anything is possible.'
