Wir sprechen über Ozeane. 🌊 Aber wir nutzen manchmal KI. 🤖Ist das ein Widerspruch?

Als Museum für Meeres- und Umweltschutz stellen wir uns diese Frage selbst.
KI benötigt Energie, Wasser und Ressourcen. Gleichzeitig kann sie helfen, komplexe Themen sichtbar und verständlich zu machen – von Unterwasserwelten bis hin zu wissenschaftlichen Zusammenhängen.
Wir nutzen KI nicht als Ersatz für echte Erlebnisse, Forschung oder eigene Inhalte, sondern nur dort, wo sie Wissen zugänglicher machen kann.

💭 Was denkt ihr: Kann KI verantwortungsvoll für Bildung und Aufklärung eingesetzt werden?

We talk about oceans. 🌊But sometimes we use AI. 🤖 Is that a contradiction?

As a museum focused on ocean and environmental protection, this is a question we ask ourselves too.
AI requires energy, water, and resources. At the same time, it can help make complex topics more visible and easier to understand – from underwater habitats to scientific concepts.
We don’t use AI as a replacement for real experiences, research, or original content, but only where it helps make knowledge more accessible.

Im Rahmen der Fortsetzung von Isola Alter Ego standen Gemeinschaft, Umweltbildung und die Verbindung zum Meer weiterhin im Mittelpunkt. 🌊

Im kreativen Workshop konnten Kinder und Jugendliche Themen wie Biodiversität, Recycling und Meeresschutz spielerisch entdecken. Beim Plankton Harvesting erhielten Teilnehmende Einblicke in Citizen Science und die Auswirkungen von Mikroplastik auf marine Ökosysteme.

Mit dem Corteo del Mare entstand zudem ein gemeinsames Erlebnis auf dem Wasser, das Natur, Austausch und Umweltbewusstsein miteinander verbunden hat.

Das Projekt zeigt, wie gemeinsames Handeln und lokale Initiativen nachhaltige Veränderung anstoßen können. 💙

As part of the ongoing journey of Isola Alter Ego, we continued creating connections between community, education, and the ocean. 🌊

Through kids workshops, participants explored biodiversity, recycling, and marine conservation in creative and hands-on ways. During our plankton harvesting activities, the community engaged with citizen science and learned more about the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems.

The Corteo del Mare brought everyone together on the water — turning environmental awareness into a shared experience around the island.

Small local actions can create meaningful impact when people learn, experience, and act together. 💙

Erste erfolgreiche Woche unseres Projekts Isola Alter Ego auf Ventotene 🌿✨
📅 10.–15. März

Was für ein Start! In diesen Tagen haben wir gemeinsam unglaublich viel bewegt:
Wir haben eine kreative Mauer aus Flaschen gebaut, um dahinter die Mülltonnen zu verstecken und den Ort schöner zu gestalten. ♻️
Mit Kindern haben wir inspirierende Workshops durchgeführt und gemeinsam über Umwelt und Kreativität gearbeitet. 🎨
Außerdem gab es mehrere Clean-Ups – im alten römischen Hafen und am Strand – bei denen wir jede Menge Müll gesammelt haben. 🧹🌊
Die Pflanzkübel im Hafen wurden von Dreck befreit und mit neuen Pflanzen bepflanzt, um dem Ort wieder Leben zu geben. 🌱
Zum Abschluss haben wir einen Community-Event organisiert, der Menschen zusammengebracht und den Austausch gestärkt hat. 🤝

Danke an alle Helfer, Unterstützer und neuen Freund auf Ventotene – das ist erst der Anfang! 💛

First successful week of our Isola Alter Ego project on Ventotene 🌿✨
📅 March 10–15

What a start! During these days we achieved so much together:
We built a creative wall made of bottles to hide the trash bins and improve the space. ♻️
We organized inspiring workshops with children, sharing ideas around creativity and environmental awareness. 🎨
We carried out several clean-ups — in the old Roman harbour and on the beach — collecting large amounts of waste. 🧹🌊
We cleaned the planters in the harbour from dirt and litter and planted new greenery to bring life back to the area. 🌱
To wrap it up, we organized a community event that brought people together and strengthened local connections. 🤝

A big thank you to all volunteers, supporters, and new friends on Ventotene — this is just the beginning! 💛

OCEAN REALITY CHECK: Ocean Berlin unter der Lupe

Ocean Berlin wird als Ort für Bildung und Meeresschutz beworben — gleichzeitig gibt es starke Kritik von Tierschutzorganisationen und Aktivist.

Denn: Können Ozeane wirklich geschützt werden, wenn Meerestiere dafür in künstlichen Becken gehalten werden?

Mit diesem Post möchten wir einen kurzen Einblick in die Debatte geben und dazu anregen, Unterhaltung mit Wildtieren kritisch zu hinterfragen.

Taking a closer look at Ocean Berlin

Ocean Berlin is promoted as a place for education and ocean conservation — yet the project has faced strong criticism from animal rights organizations and activists.

The question is: Can we truly protect the oceans while keeping marine animals in artificial tanks?

With this post, we want to offer a brief insight into the debate and encourage people to think critically about entertainment involving wild animals.

The project: Isola Alter Ego🐋🌊

Isola Alter Ego is not yet a defined concept, but a shared inquiry into our relationship with the sea. Together, we will explore what an “alter ego island” means and what it can reveal about how we live with the oceans.
The project unfolds on two levels: as an abstract space, it gathers stories, drawings, maps, and memories from citizens and schools, building a collective imagination; as a tangible space, it takes shape as circular architecture made from reclaimed materials — a visible record of shared choices.
Through artistic practices, scientific research, and participatory methods, the project addresses marine plastic pollution. Plastic and other locally collected materials will be transformed by into modular structures that host conversations, workshops, and collective decision-making.

Isola Alter Ego non è ancora un concetto definito, ma un’indagine condivisa sul nostro rapporto con il mare. Insieme esploreremo cosa significa “isola alter ego” e cosa può rivelare sui nostri modi di vivere gli oceani.
Il progetto si sviluppa su due livelli: come spazio astratto raccoglie storie, disegni, mappe e ricordi di cittadini e scuole, creando un immaginario collettivo; come spazio tangibile prende forma in un’architettura circolare realizzata con materiali recuperati, segno concreto delle scelte condivise.
Attraverso pratiche artistiche, ricerca scientifica e metodi partecipativi, il progetto affronta l’inquinamento da plastica marina. La plastica e altri materiali raccolti localmente verranno trasformati da in strutture modulari che ospitano conversazioni, workshop e decisioni collettive.
