Striving to produce items that do not decorate but function and have the highest standards of production, material and origin. This has not been a rare occurrence. Mono products have become part of permanent museum collections of modern and applied art. Mono friends elicit pleasure on a daily basis.

On Saturday, September 12, together with UdK Berlin, we’re inviting you to IMBISS at the Eternithaus–as part of Currents, the new community event for Berlin’s design scene.

For the Mono Summer Residency, UdK students Garance Pröbsting and Jan Cichon have developed a site-specific installation together with the Mono Studio Berlin. It sets the stage for a previously unreleased new product: Mono Compagno.

Designed by design student Oskar Poetsch, Mono Compagno originated in an earlier UdK project back in 2024. His idea: a reusable companion for snack bars and ice cream shops. The result is a pocket-sized stainless-steel tool–french fries fork, ice cream spoon and bottle opener in one, with a carabiner for your keyring.

Fries and ice cream will be served. And while supplies last, you can take home a Mono Compagno for free.

Mono Compagno – From an idea to a product.

Prof. Ineke Hans invited Mono Managing Partner and Creative Director Johannes Seibel to join the Design & Social Context project group at UdK Berlin as a guest lecturer for the semester project Food and Tools and Politics in fall 2024.

One of the students was Oskar Poetsch. His starting point: the disposable cutlery of Berlin’s snack bars and ice cream shops—and the idea of creating something better.

After countless tests and iterations, he presented Compagno in January 2025. A small, clever tool for snacks on the go—designed to be kept, not thrown away.

Johannes immediately recognized something distinctly Mono in the idea: simple, functional, long-lasting—and made to be produced at the Mono manufactory in Mettmann.

Experience Mono Compagno for the first time at IMBISS by Mono × UdK at the Eternithaus in Berlin’s Hansaviertel on September 12 at .berlin.

Together with the Design & Social Context project group at UdK Berlin, led by Prof. Ineke Hans, we initiated the Mono Summer Residency – bringing design education and practice together in an everyday setting.

Over the course of two months, UdK students Garance Pröbsting and Jan Cichon have collaborated with the Mono Studio Berlin to develop a site-specific installation, which will be presented for the first time at Currents, the new community-based event highlighting Berlin’s design scene.

Save the date: On September 12, we will present the result of the Mono Summer Residency in the outdoor area of the Eternithaus in Hansaviertel Berlin.

This is the first issue of Mono Journal: a look at contemporary ideas, projects and perspectives. The collected stories explore design, craftsmanship and collaboration—born out of encounters between different generations, disciplines and points of view. The design of this issue is also the result of a dialogue. It was created in collaboration with the graphic design office BY STUDIO. Mono Journal puts together what emerges within the Mono universe—a snapshot of what interests, inspires and drives us.

This summer we celebrated the release of the first issue of Mono Journal with an event at Mono Studio in Berlin.
