We are happy to provide Sculpture Workshop for unique children.

Art therapy and creative activities provide essential benefits for inclusive education. Here are some key reasons why:
▪️Non-Verbal Expression: Art allows children to communicate feelings, fears, and experiences that they may struggle to put into words.
▪️Boosts Confidence: Completing an art project provides a tangible sense of accomplishment, helping children to build self-esteem and a sense of pride in their abilities.
▪️Develops Motor Skills: Engaging with a range of materials (brushes, clay, crayons) helps to improve fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and physical dexterity.
▪️Fosters Social Inclusion: Collaborative art projects create a shared space where all children—regardless of their abilities—can interact, share materials, and learn from one another.
▪️Emotional Regulation: The process of creating art is naturally calming. It helps children to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and develop patience and focus.
▪️Promotes Cognitive Growth: Art encourages problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking as children choose colours, shapes, and techniques to bring their ideas to life.
▪️A Safe Environment for Exploration: Art provides a “judgment-free zone” where there are no right or wrong answers, encouraging children to take risks and embrace their unique perspectives.

Tom Yendell OBE and Freedom Through Expression Art Gallery were delighted to host a visit from the Alton Town Mayor, Cllr Barbara Tansey and the Alton Town Twinning Association with their guests from Pertuis in France.

Our visitors were hugely impressed by the artwork on display, and to learn of the amazing work done by the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide and the extra support that the MFPA Trust Fund UK provides to young disabled artists.

We were able to introduce our guests to a workshop being held for a special needs school and our Printing and Framing Department – both supported by the Trust Fund.

„ Photography has been my constant passion since I was 16, serving as a creative thread throughout my life. My work has taken me across the globe, including extended periods living in Australia and the United States, providing me with the privilege of meeting a diverse array of fascinating people.

My aesthetic is deeply influenced by my surroundings. During my time abroad, I focused on coastal scenes in Australia, followed by street and landscape photography across the US.

Now based in Hampshire, I have turned my lens toward the fascinating, often overlooked world of slime moulds. Whether exploring my own garden or the local woodlands, I am currently dedicated to capturing the intricate, hidden beauty of these unique organisms.
I am delighted to share this print of slime mould on the edge of a holly leaf with you, and hope this invites you to look a little closer at the natural world around us.“

LETTICE BOWEN

Lettice Bowen is a 21 year old autistic artist from North Devon. She lives on a farm and is surrounded by wildlife and ponies which have influenced her creativity.

She has drawn since she was old enough to hold a pencil mainly drawing horses again and again! In 2021 she entered the Unique Art Awards and was lucky enough to win the silver award 🥈.

As a result of this she was supported by the charity to attend a week long illustration course at Central Saint Martins, which was a wonderful and positive experience for her.

In 2022 she entered the Unique Art Awards again, with a pastel drawing of her mum’s favourite sheep Baa, and was fortunate enough to win the overall Gold Award. The prize has given Lettie the boost in confidence to develop her art, and to start her own small business Lettice Bowen Art, which trades in South Molton pannier market twice a week.

The prize money has also supplied her with a fantastic selection of Unison Pastels which have helped her create even more beautiful pieces.

It’s a brilliant combination when a person of such talent remains so remarkably humble.

We are delighted to introduce you KERRIN TILLEY - mouth painting artist from New Zealand.

«I’ve always loved the outdoors and had an avid interest in farming. Leaving school I gained a trade certificate in farming. This was a great life living off the land as much as possible and it lead to a job with the Department of Conservation, out the back of Opotiki, New Zealand.

Unfortunately, all of this came to an abrupt end when at the age of 21 l injured my neck while playing rugby in 1988. The injury occurred while engaged in a scrum, resulting in a dislocation of the vertebrae 4 and 5. The injury occurred while engaged in a scrum, resulting in a dislocation of the vertebrae 4 and 5. This left me with very limited feeling and function from the neck down.

While rehabilitating at the Otara Spinal Unit I met four mouth painters who gave me encouragement to have a go at painting. There was also an excellent tutor, Doreen Jones, who came in once a week to help.

In 1992 I was accepted into the Mouth and Foot Painters Association as a student. In 2005 I was accepted as an associate member; this was fabulous news as I was able to earn an income from my art. The Mouth and Foot Painting Association reproduces our work as cards, calendars, gift tags and various other products. They handle the marketing and distribution allowing us to concentrate on our artwork. My main interests are sceneries, wild life and flowers.”

Welcome to see amazing ART by Kerrin Tilley at FREEDOM THROUGH EXPRESSION GALLERY in Alton, England. (GU34 1DD)

Lettice’s artistic confidence has grown and she now runs her own small business Lettice Bowen Art, which trades in South Molton pannier market.

We are proud to host an exhibition of Lettice’s natural pastel artwork 2nd - 30th May.
