Our studio is in the heart of the Art & Vintage Quarter, just off the junction of St Michael's Lane and Gundry Lane in Bridport, a v

ibrant little market town with a growing reputation for art, food and somewhat bohemian culture, which nestles in the rolling hills a mile or so back from the World Heritage status Jurassic Coast in Dorset, on the south coast of England. Goldfish Bowl Studio is found at the western (riverside) end of the Edwards/Tower Building, the square-towered brick Victorian rope factory which now houses St Michael's Studios. It is situated on the middle floor, accessed via the door under the blue-clad staircase, through the lobby and up the internal staircase. We used to be on the top floor (thus our previous name of 'Studio in the Attic'!)

SALLY DAVIES

Sally started out as a ladies fashion designer, but 21 years later her affinity with nature, especially flowers, triggered a complete change of direction and she opened a nursery selling unusual plants. Using photography to better market her produce, she developed a range of greetings cards and from this emerged her later work primarily as a digital artist. Sally has now expanded her range into painting. sallydaviesart.co.uk

ELIZABETH SPORNE
β€’ Predominantly portraits
Revealing a gift for likeness in her teens, Liz studied painting at art college and worked in graphics in London, then spent several years abroad before returning to England and embarking on 20-odd years in publishing. She ended up on the south coast writing for sailing magazines and illustrating gardens, but eventually came home to Bridport. She continues with some other work but her main focus, now, is portraits.

It's Dorset Art Weeks... so here's artists at work!

Taken yesterday, it's Elizabeth Sporne Art at the easel, with Sally Davies art behind the camera.

We'll both be in studio today, Bank Holiday Monday, open for DAW from 10-5.

We're on the St Michael’s Trading Estate - Art & Vintage Quarter in Bridport. Do drop by (and cool off!)

Day One... and so it begins, Dorset Art Weeks 2026!

From this year, DAW goes annual (until now it's been every two years), so from here on this will be a yearly post.

We will be open every day of the event, Sat 23rd May - Sun 7th June, 10am-5pm. Unfortunately, due to other commitments Elizabeth Sporne Art will only be in the studio on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays during this time, however Sally Davies art will be holding the fort throughout.

If you want to bring a four-footed friend, dogs are very welcome – almost as much as their humans!

Starting this coming Saturday, it's 𝗗𝗒π—₯π—¦π—˜π—§ 𝗔π—₯𝗧 π—ͺπ—˜π—˜π—žπ—¦!

For 16 days, Sally Davies art and Elizabeth Sporne Art will have our Goldfish Bowl Studio open to the public, along with hundreds of other artists in more than 290 venues across the county.

(NB Liz will only be present Saturdays, Sundays & Mondays, but Sally will be there every day and can answer most questions about Liz's work too.)

Find us in DAW venue 211, on the the St Michael's Trading Estate in 𝗕π—₯π—œπ——π—£π—’π—₯𝗧 town centre, Sat 23 May - Sun 7 June.

It's the final weekend to see my studio-mate Sally Davies art in exhibition, along with Nicola Dennis and Dan Pedler, at the fabulous Eype Centre for the Arts just outside of Bridport.

Meanwhile I will be holding the fort in town today at Goldfish Bowl Studio on the St Michael's Trading Estate from around 11am.
