Today we are celebrating George Müller's birthday!

This was always a special time in the orphanages as the children had a week-long holiday when they enjoyed fun activities, like blackberry-picking, and had their annual slice of cake!

We are so pleased to share that we have safely moved and stored all 17,554 of our original orphan records! 💜

Following the flooding at our museum, we urgently needed somewhere dry and secure to store these precious records. We calculated that we would need around 19 lockable cupboards to house them safely.

That same week, we received a phone call from a contact who told us they had some cupboards going spare - and offered us exactly 19 lockable cupboards on a free, long-term loan! 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and helped us carefully move, organise and store these irreplaceable records!

Over 17,000 records were stored in the museum's archive room affected by the flood

While on holiday on the Devon coast, our Museum Curator, Ellie, took the opportunity to visit one of the places that shaped George Muller's remarkable story.

📩 Here's what she had to say:

"On a recent holiday near Teignmouth I was able to go hunting for some of the places connected with George Muller. Ebenezar Chapel in Teignmouth (above) was the home of George Muller's main congregation when he first began preaching. It was the place where he first ended pew rents and stopped taking a salary. The building is difficult to get to (I had to photograph it through a locked gate) but as a listed building, looks much the same as it would have done in 1830 when Muller was there. It was surprisingly moving to be in the place where the foundation stone of his life's work (trusting in God to provide) was laid. His legacy is 17,556 children cared for in Bristol, 120,000 children educated in day schools in his lifetime, countless preaches, missionary tours, and work funded overseas, and a charity still working to care for vulnerable children today. And all of it happening because Muller decided, in this very chapel, to trust in God's faithfulness. Pretty special.
From Ellie"

For the first time in many years, we're seeing photos printed from these original blocks! We are very excited to see these photos and soon have them on display in our museum.
