Our latest acquisition — and a little piece of Birmingham history.

This rather handsome 19th-century wall clock has just arrived at Y Segontiwm.

The dial is signed J. Knowles, Birmingham, and we’re now doing a little digging to find out more about the maker.

Birmingham was an important centre for clock and watch making during the 19th century. This is a lovely example of a large English dial clock, made to be easily read across a busy room.

We particularly love the bold Roman numerals, elegant hands and that wonderful figured wooden surround.

It has clearly spent many years keeping time somewhere else. If only it could tell us where!

For now, it has found a new home at Y Segontiwm
