Museum dedicated to preserving the stories and memories of the American involvement in World War Two based at Thorpe Abbotts.

We are housed in the original airfield control tower and surrounding atmospheric buildings. The 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum is a moving testament to the Americans who came to Thorpe Abbotts in Norfolk to fight alongside the allies during World War Two.

Autumn sunshine at Thorpe Abbotts. Photo taken by a volunteer of the Tower yesterday. We’ve seen Spring, Summer and we’re now into Autumn and we’re open for another 2 weeks so still time to visit - open weekend with FREE entry for all.

Veteran family visit - Susan and husband Ken are shown at the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum in the company of volunteers when they visited to honour Susan’s father, Lt Fortunato ‘Freddy’ Carello. Arriving in February 1945 Lt Carello flew 21 combat missions and in addition some chowhound missions with the 350th Bomb Squadron. He lived a long life passing away at the age of 90 in 2009. Susan can be seen accepting a piece of main runway to take back to the US as a memento of her visit to the airfield where her father served in the dark days of World War Two.

An American cycles along the Perimeter Track at Thorpe Abbotts stirring memories of the men of the Hundredth who served here during the war and who rode on the same taxiways. Matt Mabe is a Director with the 100th Bomb Group Foundation in the states. He visited the museum at the weekend spending time with volunteers of the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum and delivering a great presentation on Black Week, 1943. Matt visits every couple of years and it is something of a tradition for him to ride one of the WW2 vintage bikes on the former airfield. He has done much to foster the close and enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the museum in the UK and the Foundation across the pond. We thank him for his friendship.

A fabulous day at Thorpe Abbotts was capped off yesterday with a fascinating presentation from Matt Mabe of the 100th Bomb Group Foundation last evening. Matt’s presentation to museum volunteers focussed on Black Week, the fateful week in October 1943 when the 100th Bomb Group and the Eighth Air Force suffered heavy losses in a series of missions over Europe. Matt’s visit to the museum and presentation demonstrates the deep and important ties between the memorial museum in the UK, the Foundation in the US and the Museum of the Air Battle over the Ore Mountains in the Czech Republic. Dan Rosenthal also joined in to speak to volunteers on a livestream from the US. The family of Jack and Susan Brady were also at the museum, 83 years to the day after their father, John Brady was shot down on the raid on Munster. John Brady was a pilot with the 418th Bomb Squadron. The photos show Jack Brady, Matt Mabe and museum volunteers and Trustees.

Thorpe Abbotts - veteran family visit. Allison Dvorak’s Grandfather, S/Sgt Edmund Rosmenoski completed 35 missions as a Waist Gunner with the 100th Bomb Group. Allison toured the museum and the airfield site in the company of volunteers.
