EXCITING NEWS FOR GUNSGREEN HOUSE!

A Gunsgreen for Everyone – a bright future for our historic house!

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that Gunsgreen House Trust has been awarded £249,750 in Development Funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund! 🎉👏

Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will help us develop our exciting plans to secure a bright future for Gunsgreen House and put it at the heart of community life in Eyemouth.

From its secret smuggling tunnels and famous Tea Chute to Eyemouth’s fishing heritage, fishermen’s rebellions and the early days of seaside holidays, Gunsgreen House has some incredible stories to tell!

So, what does this mean for the future?

Plans for a new heritage centre celebrating Eyemouth’s fascinating history.

Opening up more of the historic house for visitors to explore.

Capturing local memories and oral histories before they are lost.

New opportunities for local people to get involved, volunteer and learn traditional heritage skills.

Making the house more accessible and reducing its carbon footprint.

This is an exciting step towards ensuring that Gunsgreen House remains a special place for our community and visitors for generations to come.

Over the next 18 months, we’ll be holding a series of community engagement events and we want YOU to be part of shaping the future of Gunsgreen House!

This is your heritage, your stories and your house.

Several people have been asking how our project to create a new heritage centre in the building is progressing and “when will it open?”

Here is the latest project update:
The self-catering accommodation in Gunsgreen Apartment (the two upper floors of the main house) and Nisbet’s Tower is open and available to book by accessing the following link – www.gunsgreenhouse.org/stay-with-us.
The ground floor rooms are available for meetings and host a range of events “Gunsgreen Gatherings” throughout the year – details are available on our page - www.facebook.com/GunsgreenHousetrust
The basement and cellars are currently not accessible to the public and are being dried out after significant water ingress issues.
An application has been submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for funding support to create an exciting new heritage visitor centre in the cellars, basement and ground floors. We should hear the outcome of this application in September 2026.
If successful the next phase ( Development) will last until around May 2028 when an application for the construction or “Delivery” phase will be submitted to NLHF. The outcome of this will not be known until Autumn 2028.
If successful, construction could start in early 2029 and be complete in early 2030 with a possible opening of the new heritage centre in the spring of 2030.

🚪Doors Open Day Gunsgreen House 🚪

We were delighted to have been kept busy all day with locals and visitors to the town.

It was great to see our regular supporters and new faces too!

The home made Scones and cakes went down a treat!

Come along this Sunday 6th September between 11-3pm. . We have a guest house memorabilia exhibition and a chance to have look around some of our current accomodation space!
Our pop up tea room will be open too! come along for a cupa!

Doors Open Days is a free public event, offering unique experiences, fun days out and a new perspective on buildings and shared spaces throughout Scotland.
