Yesterday was a very special day here at Landguard Fort 💛
We were honoured to welcome Jenny Riddell‑Carpenter MP to Landguard Fort for a celebration of heritage, community and the volunteers who keep our history alive.

A particularly poignant moment was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, a tribute to Dave Wood (1947–2023) — one of our founding trustees (and fortification historian) whose passion helped shape the Fort into the landmark it is today. Members of Dave’s family joined us on site, standing alongside volunteers, supporters and friends who continue to build on the legacy he began.

Jenny Riddell‑Carpenter MP also joined Felixstowe’s new Mayor, Darren Aitchison, to officially open our brand‑new Timeline exhibition — an immersive journey through the whole of Landguard's history, from coastal defence through to the stories that shaped our community.

A huge thank you to everyone that supports the Fort, shares its stories, and gives their time to protect this incredible historic place.

Join us on Monday 25th May for our Volunteer Open Day and discover what it’s really like to volunteer across the Landguard site, including Landguard Fort, the neighbouring Nature Reserve, and Felixstowe Museum.

This unique area is rich in history, wildlife, and heritage, offering numerous opportunities to get involved. From welcoming visitors and sharing local history to helping conserve the site and supporting events and activities, there are plenty of ways to contribute.

Come along, meet current volunteers, explore the different sites, and find out more about the opportunities available. Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn new skills, or give something back to the community, we’d love to welcome you.

As a thank you, anyone who signs up to volunteer on the day will receive FREE entry to the fort and a trip to the roof.

No experience needed - just enthusiasm!

🚒 Don't worry, It Was Just a drill!
​Did you see the fire engine outside the front of Landguard Fort yesterday? Don't worry, it wasn't an emergency!

​Our local fire brigade was simply doing some training in and around the fort.

​A big thank you to the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crew for all that you do! 🙌
