🏰✨Exciting progress is underway at Helmsley Castle as our ‘Last Residence’ project continues in the historic Tudor Manor House.

This important project will help preserve one of the castle’s most fascinating features, our 400 year old wood panelling!

✨Spring is in the air, but in 1644, the air was filled with the sound of cannons! 💣

Helmsley Castle was a Royalist stronghold during the Civil War, surviving a brutal three-month siege before starvation finally forced a surrender. Today, the sun shines peacefully over the ruins, but you can still see where the East Tower was blown apart to make it "indefensible."

Come and visit, open daily, 10am to 5pm 🕔

✨They say Helmsley Castle has a guardian… but not the kind you’d expect.

Can you spot it in these pictures? 🧚

A small mischievous Imp has been protecting the castle for centuries! Legend has it he keeps the castle from harm, weaving tiny spells into the stones to keep its standing strong.

Next time you visit Helmsley Castle, keep your eyes open…
You might not see him, but he’ll definitely see you. 👀

🏰Glimpse into the Past: Robert de Roos II ✨

Did you know that much of the castle you see today was built by Robert de Roos II, a powerful medieval noble who died in 1226?

Robert played a significant role in English history—he was a witness to the Magna Carta in 1225, helping to shape the future of the nation.

Later in life, he devoted himself to faith and duty by joining the Knights Templar, one of the most famous medieval orders. 🛡️
