MŌR Studio MŌR is a creative gathering, moving in rhythm with the year’s turning.

We bring together artists and makers, works and objects, each attuned to the textures and gestures of the present season.

SUSIE REDMAN / BRETON.

A little colour. A lot of character.

Susie Redman’s Breton table runner brings a rather wonderful collision of colour, pattern and traditional weaving to GATHER.

Woven in linen, its shifting checks of ochre, orange, green and earthy tones feel entirely at home with the season. Bold without being brash. Considered without being precious.

And while it looks rather magnificent flying through the air, we’d much rather see it stretched across a table. Under plates, between glasses, amongst the crumbs and conversation.

Textiles made to be handled. Used. Lived with.

GATHER / OUT IN THE OPEN.

Who decided the dining room needed four walls?

A table outside. Something good to eat. Something to drink. A few mismatched vessels, a bit of autumn air and absolutely no reason to stand on ceremony.

We like our objects put to work. Plates with crumbs. Bowls passed around. Glasses refilled. Beautiful things being useful things.

Because a table isn’t really a table until something happens around it.

A little reminder that GATHER isn’t about setting the perfect table. It’s about making one worth sitting at.

Explore the works of GATHER, in the studio and online throughout October.

Introducing Hannah McDermid.
-
Wood, but not as you know it.

We’re delighted to welcome Hannah McDermid to MŌR, bringing with her the extraordinary craft of marquetry.

An age-old technique with an entirely contemporary attitude. Working with the natural grain, colour and character of wood, Hannah assembles intricate compositions from individual pieces of veneer. No paint. Just material, precision and a rather brilliant understanding of form.

There’s something we love about taking a traditional craft and pushing it somewhere unexpected. Hannah does exactly that.

A new material language for MŌR. And one we’re incredibly excited to explore.

Welcome to the fold, Hannah.

Clay. A material of many minds.

Earth, Water, Air and Forest a material as old is our need to make things.

For GATHER, we have brought together five ceramicists whose approaches to material and surface couldn’t be more individual.

Familiar. Domestic. Functional.

Because utility needn’t mean uniform. And the domestic object needn’t be predictable.

Walnut, spalted beech, oak and ebonised oak bring darker tones and richly detailed surfaces to the table - material that feel particularly at home as the year turns and life moves indoors.
Made from locally sourced, often storm-fallen or diseased timber, each piece follows what is already present in the wood. Bowls wobble.
Grain remains visible. Knots and marks are part of the pieces.

Amount a table of many hands and materials, Rachel’s pieces ground the gathering: tactile, generous - made to be handled, filled, passed around and lived with.

We set a table -
Something really wonderful happened!

Before we moved works to the studio - GATHER was simply a table at home.

A first meeting of objects and makers - and ideas. Works made by different hands…. In different places, in conversation for the very first time.

came to photograph it all. Nothing quite where it should be, moving things around, trying combinations…. Colour, texture, form.

And that was rather the point.
Not about the perfect table.
It was about bringing things together.

A little glimpse of where it began.
Photographed by a Josh, at home.

GATHER continues throughout October.

It’s all coming toGATHER!!
We have been plotting and planning this exhibition for over a year - the initial idea we had before we got the keys and opened the door to the studio.

A labour of love and we are so excited that it is nearly upon us! A preview can be a little harrowing - but we are hoping that you can join us - even if we are announcing a little later than planned!

So - please consider this your invitation!

Friday 2 October | 6–8pm.
Come and see GATHER before we properly open the doors.

The Old Yard Coffee Shop will be staying open with autumn tasting plates - and the menu looks delicious!

Come hungry. Come curious. Bring someone.

Appreciating this is text heavy - enticing images coming very soon.

It’s nearly one whole year since we got the keys.
So - in advance - a bit of ‘time off?’

and - When we say ‘bit of rest’ we totally mean we will be catching up on all the adulting that we’ve left at the door for the last 11 and a half months!

Still here if you need us!
See you in the flip.

Big Love
