Much excitement in the gallery today - Mark has brought in the prints of his latest Beneath the Sheets ghostly artwork. Here is The Archbishop and the Arsonist - a tale based (loosely!) in the history of York, and arsonist Jonathan Martin’s attempt to burn down the cathedral in 1829.

Mark finished the painting last night and worked late creating the print version.
Prints are available now, with the glowing enchanted ones to follow soon!

Congratulations to Nicola Gillyon on her selection as a finalist in this year’s David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Award.
We’ve lots of Nicola’s wildlife prints at the gallery - her work is simply stunning!

I am extremely excited and proud to say that my piece 'Finite ..' has been selected as a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year 2026 competition.

I am very grateful and honoured to have a piece selected and exhibited in September at The Mall Galleries, and look forward to seeing all of the other pieces, just really chuffed to be part of it all 😁 x

Thanks so much ☺️

In case you missed my chat with David from York Independent Life last week, here’s the second part of his film, when he came to the gallery to view Sam Toft’s latest releases. Here, he’s admiring the gallery window and our wall of gorgeously heartwarming Sam Toft limited editions.

🤣 Who knew that my voice was so squeaky- no one told me! 🤣

Thanks to David at York Independent Life who called in at the gallery earlier this week to take a look at Sam Toft’s Moments of Wonder print collection. These fabulous prints are exclusively available from ourselves and Sam’s own website. Here’s a little film of David chatting to Anne about the prints.

Minerva, Goddess of Wisdom, and my favourite heritage lamppost, are looking rather splendid this fine morning. Which do you think is her most photogenic profile - from High or Low Petergate? I look at her every day from my door on Low Petergate so I’m rather partial to that view! How about you?

Last night Petra and I went to Rae George Art’s exhibition preview and discovered Rock Garden Ceramics studio gallery on Scarcroft Road. Here, Zak and Lydia have created a beautiful display area, hand crafted by Zak from reclaimed timber, on which Lydia’s tactile ceramics sit perfectly.
It’s wonderful to see this next generation of creatives getting established in the city.
Situated on Scarcroft Road just outside the city wall, it is definitely worth wandering out of the city centre to see!
PS Zak serves an amazing iced coffee!

Oooh… midnight filming action by York Minster. Duncombe Place is full of TV support trucks and Precentors Court is blocked off at both ends - which means the cast and crew of TV drama Patience are back in town.
Did you see the first series? I very much enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see what’s in store this time!
In the series Patience lives down Precentors Court.

This evening we were delighted to attend the preview evening of Rae George Art’s solo exhibition ‘In This Moment.’
Rae paints the most wonderful floral art - inspired by 17th century Dutch masters but with a contemporary twist; I’ve been a fan for ages! Rae’s vibrant personality shines through in her work.
The exhibition is at Studio by Rock Garden Ceramics on Scarcroft Road and runs throughout June. Rae works from Pica Studios and also runs life drawing classes. Definitely one to watch!
