Ready to dance? 💃 Join artist Ithalia Johnson for a joyful, interactive family workshop inspired by the exhibition Toxteth: The Harlem of Europe.

Explore dance moves inspired by soul, calypso, reggae, Highlife and 1960s social dancing. Learn, create and celebrate together as a family through movement, music and creativity.

✨ No experience needed
🎶 Suitable for primary-aged children and families
📍 Part of our Super Saturday event at the VG&M

Date: Saturday 6 June
Session times: 12pm, 1pm and 2pm
Duration: Approximately 30-40 minutes per session

Come and move, create and celebrate the global rhythms that helped make L8 known as The Harlem of Europe.

Enjoy hands-on crafts inspired by the exhibition, move to the rhythms of the era in lively dance workshops, and take a guided tour to discover the stories of Toxteth’s legendary musicians and nightlife. 🕺💃

Meet some of the musicians and historians featured in the exhibition, hear their stories, and get inspired by the music and creativity that shaped a community. 🧡

✨Step inside a new free exhibition presenting works created at one of Britain's pioneering printmaking studios.
'Making a Mark: Artworks from the Studio Prints Collection' features more than 40 prints by British artists including Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud and Dorothea Wight.
This exhibition will be the first time these works have been displayed since they were gifted to our collection.

A glimpse into our Sacred Spaces exhibition — this photograph shows Global Tribe in Leeds, a spiritual shop that’s been part of the city since 1999. ✨

The exhibition explores sacred places across the North of England that are often hidden in plain sight. The photographs are grouped into three themes: institutional spirituality, spiritual entrepreneurship and everyday spirituality.

See this work and more in Sacred Spaces, on display until June 2026.
