Our current Viewing Room on Artsy – Modern Landscape.

This thematic selection reflects the continued engagememnt with landscape as a key feature in 20th-century art. Combining modern and post-war examples by aritsts working in Britain and Europe, these works are testament to the great impact the surrounding landscape has on the artist.

Featured works:
Alexandre Fasini, Géométrie, 1929.
André Lanskoy, In the Park, c.1940.
Alexander MacKenzie, Austwick, 1992.
Eduard Steinberg, Landscape with Stones, 1966.
Anna Staritsky, Landscape, 1970s.

A highlight from our current viewing room New Abstract IV is this wonderful Ben Nicholson.

Aegean, 1972
Pencil and oil wash on paper, shaped, on the artist's prepared board
45.5x56.5 cm

This is one the works made by Ben Nicholson on trip to Greece in October 1972 (or shortly thereafter). After visiting Greece for the first time in 1959, Nicholson felt a strong connection to the place and returned several times in the following decades. A specific interest for Nicholson was the interplay of natural and man-made forms in the Greek landscape. The pencil and oil wash drawing is made on shaped paper and mounted on the artist’s prepared board.

New Abstract IV, is part of our series of online-exclusive selections, designed to showcase new works we're excited to share. This selection focuses on works on paper, featuring pieces by Ben Nicholson, Adrian Heath, Natalia Goncharova, Lydia Masterkova, Vladimir Yankilevsky, Alex Smadja, and Peter Jackson.

Our current Viewing Rooms on Artsy are 'Peter Jackson (1930–2019)' and 'New Abstract IV'.

Peter Jackson (1930–2019), highlights the life and work of the Modern British artist and teacher. We recently presented a solo exhibition of the artist at the London Art Fair. The works chosen focused on materials and textures, aligning with the theme of the Platform section – The Unexpected – curated by Dr. Ferren Gipson.
