💥 Deptford X is delighted to welcome Sid Boyer as Co–Chairperson, stepping up from their role as Board Trustee.

A painter and poet, Sid’s practice weaves together science fiction, homeware, and the quiet act of watching ducks—grounding expansive ideas in everyday observation. Their work is rooted in care, rest, and accessibility, with a deep commitment to engaging communities who face the greatest barriers to the arts.

Sid brings extensive experience in community building, mental health advocacy, and reimagining work cultures toward more equitable futures. Sid works as a consultant with galleries and museums committed to meaningful transformation, helping them become more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to marginalised communities.

We are absolutely thrilled to have Sid’s energy, insight, and vision helping to lead our board at this exciting time for Deptford X

✨️ Join us this April for an in-depth and practical discussion exploring alternative and meanwhile use spaces—an increasingly vital resource for artists seeking affordable and flexible ways to create and exhibit work.

Our guest speaker, Pallas Citroen, will draw on her extensive experience to share valuable insights into how artists can identify and successfully use these spaces. The session will cover where to find opportunities and ways to maximise the potential of temporary or unconventional sites for creative practice.

This is a great opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge, ask questions, and connect with other artists navigating similar challenges.

📍 Shapes, 1 Carriage Way, SE8 4BY
📅 Wednesday 29 April
🕕 6–8pm (refreshments provided)

🎟 Free Tickets – Audience places are limited for this event – advance booking is essential to secure your place - link in bio

Our third and final Associate: Elizabeth Oniri (she/her) ✨️

Elizabeth’s practice moves between textile sculpture, painting, sound, and digital design, using tactile and experimental processes to explore form, memory, and embodied experience. Techniques such as trapunto, upholstery, padding, and layering allow material to operate simultaneously as structure, surface, and narrative. For Elizabeth, material is not illustrative but generative; its physical properties actively determine the direction and resolution of each work.

Working with textiles, resin, wood, paint, and found or constructed objects, Elizabeth’s making shifts between focused precision and free, gestural movement, creating a tension between control and spontaneity. While grounded in personal experience, her work extends toward cultural heritage and collective memory, drawing on abstraction, nature, movement, and ritual to consider how the body remembers through touch, repetition, and acts of making.

Our second Associate: april forrest lin 林森 (they/them), a London-based artist, curator, and film programmer.

They traverse artist moving image, writing, installation, and performance, their interdisciplinary practice invoking thematic portals of multispecies epistemologies, the archival and the anti-archival, trans embodiment, and the vernacular of the diasporic. With a background in sociology, they bridge research~speculation, the sciences~the arts, and the fictional~the factual with a commitment to a collective remembering of forgotten pasts, a critical examination of normalised presents, and a building of futurities as imagined from the periphery.

Their work is in the collection of Malmö Konstmuseum and has been screened and exhibited at arts institutions, festivals, galleries, universities including the Museum of the Moving Image New York, the Barbican Centre, HAU Berlin, Manchester Art Gallery, Ikon Gallery and Piehouse Co-op.

💜 Welcome april forrest lin 林森

We’re excited to announce our new cohort of Deptford X Associates for 2026 ✨

Our first Associate: Sam Wootten.

Sam is a South-East London–based artist whose work centres on self-construction. Rejecting the figurative myth of paint as purity or truth, he explores built selves and gender worn in gesture — defensive men and their stoic fathers, flags as flimsy shields, plywood crosses for scarecrow causes. Painted dolls as opposed to bared souls.

Sam has completed commissions for The Tate, Gucci, Salomon, Axel Arigato and Sandro, and exhibited during London and Paris Fashion Weeks. His work has been shown at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, with recent exhibitions
including Collectivist (Isaac Andrews) and a duo show at Brighton’s Koop Projects. His first solo show was held at Forevergood, sponsored by Brixton Brewery.

Welcome to Deptford X, Sam 🧡

Our next Artist Meet Up will take on an exciting sharing format using the PechaKucha structure.

Each participating artist will present 10 slides, with 10 seconds per slide — a total of 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Your slides can feature images of your artwork, key ideas, or a current project you’re developing.

If you’d like to take part, please submit your application form in the link above.

We hope to include everyone on the night; however, if interest exceeds capacity, we’ll schedule a second session later in the year.

This is a supportive, safe space and we warmly encourage everyone to get involved — the fast-paced format is a great way to build confidence, sharpen your public speaking skills, and refine your elevator pitch.

DX Artist Meet up – Environmental Sustainability Toolkit Workshop

Join Nora, one of our DX trustees and our board’s sustainability lead, for Composting: Environmental Sustainability Toolkit Workshop to reflect and develop a revised edition of this toolkit.

👉 Agenda Highlights:
As we are developing our environmental policy, we would like to create a conversation around what environmental sustainability in the arts means; getting beyond performing environmental sustainability to practicing it meaningfully. To this end, this toolkit is not a “how too” guide but and invitation to reflection, with some practical tips added. The process is open and invites feedback.
