— Centre Pompidou, Paris
Love it or loathe it, the Centre Pompidou remains one of the most controversial and instantly recognisable buildings in Paris. Its daring inside-out design gives the museum one of the most distinctive exteriors in Europe, while inside sits one of the continent’s richest and most diverse collections of modern and contemporary art.
From modern masters such as Chagall, Miró and Magritte, to Cubist pioneers including Braque, Picasso and Léger, the collection spans some of the most important artistic movements of the twentieth century and beyond. Outside, visitors are greeted by striking public installations, including Alexander Calder’s monumental sculpture Horizontal and the vibrant Stravinsky Fountain, inspired by the composer Igor Stravinsky.
Currently undergoing a major renovation project scheduled for completion in 2030, the Centre Pompidou is entering a new chapter while preserving its status as a landmark of modern architecture and culture.
