Our lovely Silk Shop is open Wednesday - Saturday 10 - 4 in line with our museum opening times.

Find us on Old Park Lane, just around the corner from Wetherspoons, just off Park Green.

We pride ourselves in stocking local makers and artisans, pure silk products, handwoven jacquard items from our mill, books that reflect our heritage as an art school and our ongoing workshop programme, toys and greetings cards; amongst other things!

Macclesfield loves football, but more importantly, it loves community. Our exhibition, 'Community FC', celebrates the beautiful game right here on our doorstep. It is a nostalgic look at local football life, featuring everything from jumpers for goalposts and shiny trophies to plenty of matchday mud.

The exhibition brings together a wonderful mix of archive photography from our own collection alongside personal photos submitted by the people of Macclesfield, and photos taken by photographer and curator Dan Fone. Come along and see if you spot a familiar face!

Community FC is open in the Corridor Gallery, Weds-Sat, 10.00am-4.00pm until 5 September.

We've just had a visit from local artist and museum collaborator Aimee Spilsted | Artist who's here researching for her forthcoming Summer stitch workshops - details to follow!

Whilst she was here we asked her to model our silk clutches/ make up bags, the purple really popped against her vibrant yellow outfit, bringing the much needed sunshine to this gray day! 🌞⛅

These bags have been selling quickly, so get yours before we put in our next order, and perhaps you'll look as fabulous as Aimee!

Join us this September, as ‘Silk Town’ celebrates its enduring creative spirit during the inaugural Macclesfield Textile Week.

The festival will honour Macclesfield’s industrial heritage while showcasing the vibrant, modern community of makers and artists who continue to define the town’s identity today with a legacy that lives on through a network of textile artists, skilled residents, and innovative local businesses.

Macclesfield Textile Week acts as a bridge between eras, and by bringing together a collective of partners, including local charities, cultural venues, schools, and independent businesses, the festival will offer an eclectic programme that celebrates the shared joy of creativity.

'Time and Place', a celebration of Macclesfield Silk Museum's pattern book archive by collective Threadmill Textiles , is now on display in the Upstairs Gallery, free to visit during Museum opening hours. They invite you come and meet them on Saturdays June 13th and July 11th from 11.00am-3.00pm to find out more about the collection.

The exhibition explores the close relationship between time and place by using the Silk Museum's pattern book archives as inspiration for a textile exhibition, which has provided us with an opportunity to see the original designs interpreted in exciting and sometimes unexpected ways.

Each work brings together personal narrative and collective history, using fabric and thread as both material and as a means of presenting an alternative viewing of the original pattern book designs. The works honour the legacy of the original pattern books, while exploring their potential to inform contemporary textile practice in a variety of different forms. We hope that visitors see the pattern book archives from a new perspective.

Threadmill is a group of artist/makers from different creative disciplines who work, collaborate and exhibit together in the north west of England. They share an enthusiasm for creativity whilst using textiles as the principle means of artistic expression. Find our more about them at https://threadmill.org.uk/textiles5

Returning for its 3rd glorious year the 1261 Festival and Parade Day is going to be bigger and better!

Taking place in town on Saturday 20th June, we’ve got plenty of returning favourites including Aerial Circus from Lets Circus, Buttonholes from Homestead Grown and the Choose Macc Park Green Party plus a whole host of new workshops, gigs, exhibitions and more!

The Silk Museum at Park Green will be acting as a Wellness Hub & Macclesfield Market Hall will be showing off their refurb with a range of activities over the day.

We have music on Castle Street where there will be songs from the Voice Box Music plus a special performance from Magic Voices Choir.

In Market Place visit one of the street food vans before collecting your programme from the insformation stand, which will list all the activities happening as part of the festival plus a handy map.

Don’t forget the Parade, which will be heading off from the Town Hall at 11am and looping around the town centre. Co-ordinated by Macclesfield Community ArtSpace the theme of this year’s parade is Films!

As the daytime event comes to a close we’ve got three early evening choices for those that want to carry on; visit a Slice of Summer Days at the Depot Car Park until 6pm, Chestergate LIVE until 7pm or the Choose Macc Party at Park Green until 8pm. Each party boasts a variety of live music, food and entertainment.

The FREE official programme will be released on Monday 8th June and will be available from Macclesfield Library, the Silk Museum, Macclesfield Community ArtSpace plus lots of other shops and café’s around town.
