Join us this September, as ‘Silk Town’ celebrates its enduring creative spirit during the inaugural Macclesfield Textile Week.

The festival will honour Macclesfield’s industrial heritage while showcasing the vibrant, modern community of makers and artists who continue to define the town’s identity today.

Macclesfield’s global reputation for ingenuity began humbly, with a cottage industry of women and children meticulously wrapping thread around wooden moulds to create silk buttons. This spark of creativity ignited a surge of industrialisation that saw the town grow dramatically, creating a global silk market and hosting an incredible 70 mills at its peak. Today, that legacy lives on through a sophisticated network of textile artists, skilled residents, and innovative local businesses.

Macclesfield Textile Week acts as a bridge between these eras. By bringing together a collective of partners, including local charities, cultural venues, schools, and independent businesses, the festival will offer an eclectic programme that celebrates the shared joy of creativity.

Find out more and sign up to hear about the full programme when it goes live at https://www.thesilkmuseum.co.uk/textileweek

Pleased to partner with Macclesfield Community ArtSpace.
Huge thanks to Cheshire East Council and Macclesfield Town Council for supporting the events.
