Exhibitions, workshops, open mic and wellbeing. Embrace the Cwtsh – a welcoming corner of creativity in Newport. Cwtsh is an ultra local arts centre that opened in February 2015 in the former "Stow Hill Library building at the Handpost, Newport. If ‘small is beautiful’, so was Stow Hill library, a much-loved institution that served the local community from 1940 until it closure in 2013. Small libraries help to develop reading skills and a love of literature. A group of us met "on the picket line" as campaigners to persuade Newport City Council to keep the library open. Now we have worked together to re-open the building as a micro arts centre at the Handpost.

Thanks to all who came to the launch of 'Wings...' at Cwtsh to support the work of Claire, Fleur, Stacy and Karla. Such a great turnout it was and a fitting tribute to their efforts. They've now joined the ranks of the those who consistently show fine photographic work in Newport's galleries and deserve every congratulation. Well done!

'Wings Over St Woolos and beyond' is a newly conceived photographic exhibition at the Cwtsh Gallery by four Newport-based photographers: Claire Everson, Fleur Buchanan, Stacy Griffiths and Karla Poppleton. Having devoted much time, effort and their considerable talents to photographing bird life in and around Newport as well as on their travels, they have put together an awe-inspiring pictorial selection of birds on the wing and in a variety of environments, many of them in familiar (to Newportonians!) places such as St Woolos Cemetery and Tredegar Park. Cwtsh is indeed proud to present their work for its first-ever gallery showing and extends a warm welcome to all to the launch event on Friday October 9th, 6-8 pm. Refreshments and nibbles. Exhibition continues until November 1st.Viewing times Friday, Saturday, Sunday 1-4 pm.

At the launch of 'La Casa Forestal', a joyful occasion for Mabel Ros and all who came to enjoy the opening of her exhibition last night. Many thanks to friends, family and the Cwtsh faithful who made the opening evening such a success. The exhibition continues now until 27th September with visiting times on Fri, Sat, Sun 1-4 pm. Mabel will be in the gallery every Saturday and Sunday to welcome visitors.

What a fantastic turnout at Cwtsh on Sunday, with no less than 14 poets volunteering to read their poems on what was intended to be the last day of the WRITE exhibition. With so much enthusiasm for it, we've decided to hold it over for another weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 1st and 2nd August, 1-4pm. NB the gallery won't be open on Friday as usual, but hope to see anyone who hasn't had the chance/time to view 'Write In The Eye' before it's well and truly gone. All welcome!!

An enthralling evening Richard, it was a fascinating to hear you read and tell stories of your two grandfathers - one 'dadcu' from the Rhondda, the other from the Black Country.
