This week, we are shining a light on Leigh Lambert at The Artizen.

Leigh’s artwork is full of warmth, humour and memory. His nostalgic street scenes often capture children playing, cobbled streets, terraced houses, snowy days and everyday moments that feel instantly familiar.

🪞✨ Shelf and unit inspiration at The Artizen…

This week’s furniture edit is all about shelves and units.

They may be practical pieces, but the right shelving or storage unit can completely change how a room feels. It can add height, create balance, give structure to an empty wall and provide the perfect place to layer books, ceramics, plants, lamps, sculptures, framed pieces and treasured objects.

🌿✨ A fresh start, brought to life…

This client story began with a single piece of artwork, but soon became a much deeper transformation.

The home already had charm, beams, character and a beautiful country setting, but the interiors no longer reflected the life being lived within it. Darker colours, heavier fabrics and dated finishes were ready to make way for something calmer, softer and more personal.

The Artizen approach was led by art from the beginning.

Pieces by Paul James introduced a bold urban edge, while softer abstract artworks by Anna Cher reflected a love of horses, countryside and natural surroundings. Together, they created balance: strength and softness, confidence and calm.

Natural tones were chosen to highlight the character of the property, with creams, greys and taupes creating a gentle foundation. Lighting was carefully considered so the artwork became a source of warmth in the evening. Curtains, voiles, ceramics, warm woods, glass, antique brass, plants, scent and personal objects all helped bring the room together.

The finished space was not just a room refresh. It was a fresh start, designed with care, meaning and trust.

🌊✨ Against the angle…

Some commissions are created because a client wants something deeply personal. Others happen because the room itself asks for something that simply cannot be found ready made.

For this kitchen transformation, the challenge was a dramatic architectural space above the kitchen: large, elevated, framed by beams and full of character.

It needed something with scale, movement and presence. Something that could anchor the room from a distance, respond to the colours of the wider scheme and feel completely at home within the architecture.

Working with Alison Johnson, The Artizen commissioned a bespoke abstract seascape created specifically for this space. The tones were drawn from the interior palette already established for the room, helping the artwork feel connected rather than added afterwards.

Then came the bold design decision: hanging the artwork at a forty five degree angle, echoing the movement of the beams and bringing a completely unique sense of dimension into the kitchen.

This is why commission can be so powerful. It allows artwork to be imagined around the room, the architecture and the feeling the space needs.
