We’re back with a beautiful 1908 German Prince Schaumburg-Lippe Silver Cigarette Case !

About its story …

This fine German enamelled silver cigarette case was presented to His Serene Highness Prince Frederick of Schaumburg-Lippe in Winter 1908 by Ditmar Finkler of Bonn.

A commissioned piece by Friedrich Van Hauten, it combines a cigarette case, match compartment with striker, and pencil holder (pencil now missing). The dedication and armorial engraving sit beneath the red enamel — a mark of its bespoke nature. The interior remains richly gilded, with only light age-related wear to the enamel.

An elegant object carrying genuine aristocratic provenance and early 20th-century European history.

Set in this is a chromed diamond shaped clock marked on the face MITRA Cherbourg (France). The statue and two accompanying vases are made by Rochard although they are not marked. The clock is in good working order and chimes on the hour.

There are a couple of small chips on the edges, nbut they are barely noticable.

Due to the heavy weight, International shipping will be expensive.

c1890 Burma Indian Life Inspired Large Silver Thabeik Bowl

Exceptional late-19th century solid silver Thabeik rice bowl, most likely Burmese, made for an Indian client.

Larger than usually encountered, this impressive bowl is richly decorated in high-relief repoussé with detailed village and agricultural scenes: farmers at work, elephants, oxen and water buffalo, and a river boat in motion. The depth and three-dimensional quality of the figures are characteristic of high-grade Burmese silverwork. Chased foliate borders frame the scenes, with a peony engraved to the base.

The underside bears a later Burmese assay inscription confirming silver content, dated 26-5-74. Excellent condition throughout.

A rare and highly decorative example of Southeast Asian silver, combining scale, craftsmanship and narrative detail.

Louis Kuppenheim Silver Compact Lipstick Holder Carl Heiss

Once carried, never forgotten.

This early 20th-century 900 silver compact and lipstick holder, inspired by a Japanese Inro and made by Louis Kuppenheim, is the kind of object that quietly signals taste rather than trend. Finely engraved, beautifully weighted in the hand, and opening to a pristine gilt interior with mirror and original note panel, it reflects a level of craftsmanship no longer produced.

Pieces of this quality were made in small numbers and were meant to be kept — not replaced. When they resurface, they rarely stay long.

c1820 Grand Tour Italy Marble Bust of Capitoline Antinous

An elegant c.1820 marble bust inspired by the celebrated Capitoline Antinous, depicting the youthful figure long associated with Antinous, favourite of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.

The bust presents a gentle, melancholic expression, the head inclined slightly downward and to the right. The white marble has aged beautifully to a warm, buttermilk tone. The pedestal bears the scratched inscription “ANTINO”, the Italian form of Antinous. While once believed to represent Antinous himself, scholars now suggest the original may have been a Roman copy of an earlier Greek statue of Hermes (Mercury).

The original sculpture was discovered around 1700 at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli and later entered the Capitoline Museum. It was famously taken by Napoleon I and returned after 1815, cementing its place in classical art history.

This finely executed copy was likely carved in the early 19th century by a skilled sculptor, created for the Grand Tour market, when wealthy Northern European travellers sought refined classical souvenirs from Italy and Southern France.

1877 Copeland Parian Bust of Delpech Water Nymph Clytie

Modelled in 1855 from a celebrated Roman marble (c.40 AD), this elegant bust depicts the water nymph Clytie with a classical Roman hairstyle and finely detailed leaf border. The Parian porcelain bust is stamped COPELAND N 77 (dated 1877) and sits on its original Copeland plinth marked C. Delpech Redt. / Art Union of London 1863 — a common factory practice.

Produced by Copeland as an Art Union of London prize, this is the 13-inch model. Detail is crisp, suggesting a relatively fresh mould. Very good condition, with only a small chip to the plinth.

The original Roman sculpture entered the British Museum in 1805 as part of the Townley Collection and became one of the most copied classical busts of the 19th century.
