Bathers’

Acrylic and charcoal on plywood, 90 × 120 cm.

Here’s a big painting I’ve just finished. I started it over a year ago, but it never quite felt resolved until now. Returning to it with fresh eyes reminded me that sometimes a piece simply tells you when it’s ready.

Painting on plywood is something I really enjoyed working with, allowing the natural grain of the wood to come through and become the flesh of the figures. I’ve loved pushing myself into territory that feels a little different to my usual approach, exploring a 1930s-inspired theme with a strong graphic composition.

There are some interesting preliminary studies of this piece in the gallery too, if you’d like to see how it evolved.

Available for sale at RWA Gallery, 4 Market Street, Whaley Bridge SK23 7BA.

Open Weds–Sat, 10–4pm.

‘Runö’ ⚓️

Katarina’s beautiful tribute to her grandad’s fishing boat, Runö. Created using watercolour, mixed media and powdered ink to achieve that wonderful watery softness, this piece brings cherished family memories to life.

Alfie pulls the duck behind while Wilson sets out the lanterns to mark where the fishing nets lie. A painting full of sea air, family stories, and a moment of teamwork, tradition and adventure.

‘Runö’ – Giclée Print | 60 × 76 cm | £275

It has taken pride of place in the gallery window this week! 😊

‘Air’ by Sally Wilson

One of those pieces that completely changes a space — stitched figures suspended in motion, somewhere between softness and strength.

So happy it’s found a new home… but already know I’m going to miss this one from the gallery wall. 😢

Excited to share - the short film ‘Pig in a Ginnel’ will be screened as part of Buxton Shorts 2025 – a celebration of local filmmaking!

The film features our son Howie as ‘Will’– a dyslexic student trying to find his way through the education system. Once he was cast, the whole Wilson family somehow managed to get involved… check out the credits!
Come and watch all the shortlisted films:
Sunday 27 July 2025, 2:00pm at Pavilion Arts Centre
Tickets only £5!
You’ll even get to vote for your favourite, so come along and support some brilliant local talent (and maybe root for a certain ginnel-dwelling pig 🐖😉).
