I love a delivery to the gallery, although it can sometimes be a bit nerve wracking if the items are fragile. Today it was a restock of our curvy lady vases, all handmade by Margaret at near Carlisle. The vases are a clever design, as they can also act as a candle holder. Multitasking women fancy that 😊

So your award winning gallery is now home to an award winning artist. On bank holiday Sunday I enjoyed the beautiful Northumbrian day on the Ford and Etal Estate, becoming the winner of the Louisa Waterford prize winner.
The brief for this this years event was 'Past & Present'. the painting I entered which you can see below is titled 'Grandpa's Classroom' and holds some very important memories for me. It was a place of safety and education in his allotment shed from a very early age. He taught me to count using sunflower seeds, learned my love of nature and gardening, as well as how to dunk Grandma's home made biscuits in my cup of tea.
Over fifty years later I discovered the vary same allotment still exists in North Shields and have since visited. The shed is long gone sadly but I have the painting and my memories.
The original is now going on show in a Gallery in Coldstream as part of my prize. However I do have cards and prints available.

The gallery is re-opening this Saturday, 9.30 - 5pm

Delighted to say I have two entries selected for the Louisa Waterford Art Prize. This is a local competition/exhibition that takes place in Etal village hall in Northumberland on Sunday 24th May, 9.30 - 4.00pm. The hall is next to Northumberland's only thatched pub, the black bull.
Visitors to the exhibition can vote for the 'peoples choice award', while main event is awarded by a panel judges.
The subject of this year's prize is 'Past and Present', so I chose my entries from the works inspired by writing my memoir, 'Grandpa's classroom' and 'Sea of memories'.
There is a full programme of art related events on the day across the villages of Etal, Ford and at Heatherslaw mill. Full details of what is on offer in these very pretty villages can be found at The Tin Shed.
