We are pleased to share Timoteus Anggawan Kusnoโ€™s ongoing presentation of ๐™Ž๐™ž๐™ก๐™–๐™ฅ ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™– ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™ง๐™—๐™–๐™ก๐™–๐™ข (2026) at Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam, as part of ๐˜Œ๐˜บ๐˜ฆ(๐˜ด) ๐˜–๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ, curated by Hicham Khalidi, on view until 6 September 2026.

Extending his ongoing inquiry into memory, image, and historiography, Takusno presents a dual-channel installation version of ๐˜š๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ข ๐˜‰๐˜ข๐˜บ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ that reflects on how the past is continually imagined and reimagined, through memories that may be borrowed, second-hand, or constructed. Drawing on the logic of trance and possession, the work navigates the strange familiarity of image and sound, moving through the nostalgic register of colonial visual culture until these forms begin to resist and question themselves.

At its centre unfolds a melancholic journey of a painting, one that echoes a shared visual memory for many who grew up in Indonesia in the early 1990s: the โ€œperfectโ€ landscape of two mountains, a paddy field, a road, and a rising sun. What appears neutral reveals itself as a constructed gaze, rooted in the enduring legacy of โ€œMooi-Indiรซโ€ and its quiet imposition of rust en orde, where dissonance is subdued and social realities are obscured.

Earlier this year, Timoteus Anggawan Kusno ( ) was selected for โ€œ๐˜•๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ ๐˜™๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด: ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ด ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ค๐˜ฉ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ 2026โ€, published by Ocula ( .art ).

Penned by Misong Kim, Takusnoโ€™s presentation at Frieze Seoul last year highlighted an installation inspired by an Indonesian martial arts film. Titled ๐˜‹๐˜ซ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜’๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ต, the fictitious film is re-presented by Takusno as an archival record of a piece of culture purportedly lost in the politically turbulent period of 1960s Indonesia, through paraphernalia including film slides and hand-painted posters. Takusno speculates on the slippages and synergies between myth, memory and history.

Takusnoโ€™s artistic practice seeks to dismantle deeply embedded narratives shaped by the history of a post-colonial, post-dictatorship nation. His work engages with questions of collective memory and power, specifically within the context of Indonesiaโ€™s New Order regime and its aftermath. Through this lens, he examines conditions such as historical amnesia, nostalgia, and pervasive feelings of melancholy.

Currently shown in Art Jakarta Papers, Riono Tanggulโ€™s ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™œ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™˜ series explores the interaction of attractive forces, invisible energy, and the dynamics of relationships. Grounded in the visual language of jewelry and personal objects, the works symbolize emotional โ€œpullsโ€โ€”forces of attraction that arise between individuals. They explore how objects worn close to the body, particularly jewelry, can embody tangible connections or, conversely, trigger memories and emotional resonance.

The presence of two poles (northโ€“south) serves as a metaphor for balance as well as opposition, explaining phenomena that are difficult to imagine yet have real, observable effects on their surroundings.

By slowing down, admitting error, and inviting contemplation within the age of relentless acceleration, Cipon attempts to understand how the systems operate and interact, and how, by looking more carefully, we might unlock another way of understanding them.

Our sincere thanks also go to all who have contributed to the realization of this exhibition.

Cipon extended his notes about how the environment and daily experience is no longer confined to physical presence alone; instead, perception itself is increasingly shaped by constant interactions within the virtual realm of cyberspace. Thoughts, emotions, and even memories are filtered through screens, platforms, and networks that operate through vast and invisible flows of data.

Within this condition, human awareness is continuously mediated by interfaces and machine-driven processesโ€”algorithms that sort information, images that circulate endlessly, and systems that translate lived reality into digital traces.

(2025), horizontal lines and dotted sequences suggest parallel streams without a clear beginning or end, emphasizing continuity. Lines imply structured transmission and infrastructure, while dots introduce fragmentation, packetization, and moments of interruption. Color is used formally to differentiate layers and rhythms, echoing the visual logic of signals and interfaces without assigning fixed meanings.

Seen through the same lens, (2025) originates from a single fragment from a feed: an image structure designed for endless repetition, rapid consumption, and partial attention. The same grid is drawn directly into a silkscreen using water-soluble pastel and printed as a monoprint repeatedly. The image gradually loses clarity through looser drawing process and the instability of the medium itself. The screen retains the gesture of drawing, but only imperfectly, introducing erosion with every transfer.

In the exhibition, Ciponโ€™s works reflect how digital images circulate today, durable in structure yet fragile in significance. ๐˜”๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ is worn down through constant exposure, replaced by sensation and repetition.
