Tomorrow, on September 3rd, we open our new exhibition 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑽𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔, with 𝐅𝐗 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐨 and 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐣𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.

Join us for the festive opening and raise a glass, because both artists will be there in person. FX Harsono has travelled all the way from Indonesia to be with us, and Vincent Ruijters has created a brand-new, monumtal commission for the show. Let’s celebrate!

Two generations. Two positions within the Chinese Indonesian diaspora. One shared inquiry into identity across borders, collective trauma, and inheritance.

𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑽𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔 brings together 𝐅𝐗 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐨 (b . 1949, Blitar) and 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐣𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 (b. 1988, The Hague) - an artist speaking from first hand experience in Indonesia and the other from a double diaspora in the Netherlands.

FX Harsono spent decades confronting authoritarian state politics before turning inward after the 1998 violence targeting the Chinese minority. Meanwhile Vincent Ruijters follows an ancestral pull leading him to his great-grandmother’s forgotten grave in Sumatra.

This journey forms the basis of Ruijters’ major new commission, ‘Kuburan’ (Graves). Presented alongside landmark works by Harsono on his erased Chinese name and mass graves of Chinese Indonesians massacred in the late 1940s’ struggle for independence, the exhibition bridges lived experience and generational memory

Meet 𝐅𝐗 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐨 (1949, Blitar). We are overjoyed to have his work in 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑽𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔, alongside a new commission by Vincent Ruijters.

FX Harsono is a seminal figure in Indonesian contemporary art and a founding member of the rebellious Gerakan Seni Rupa Baru (New Art Movement) in the 1970s. 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑽𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔, shows some of his landmark works.

And he is travelling all the way from Indonesia for our opening! Join us on Thursday 3 September, raise a glass to his outstanding oeuvre and hear him talk about his work. Sign up via the link in our bio.

Names in Our Veins

Two generations of artists trace the legacies of Chinese-Indonesian identity, memory, and diaspora.

Bringing together seminal Indonesian artist FX Harsono and Amsterdam-based artist Vincent Ruijters, the exhibition connects an artist who witnessed this past with one who inherited its consequences. Featuring iconic works by Harsono alongside a major new commission by Ruijters.

A little rewind ⏪

Back in June, 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 brought four events with four very different vibes—from camp to defiant to wholesome and contemplative—filling our Central Space with hands-on tech tinkering, Turkish horror films, custom-blend potions, and a fashion show where people of all ages became both makers and models.

Ever wondered what the earth sounds like from the inside? 🌍 whispering secrets...

Sundays are for slowing down the pace and getting curious. In Aram Lee’s "Every Worm Trampled is a Star", we have 6 suspended glass panels, each humming with a completely different recording—from subterranean geophone sounds from deep inside the ground to layered oral histories in Korean and English from Seoul’s Yongsan site to Nevada US nuclear test site.

The best part? You can’t just stand back and look. Grab a stool, lean toward the glass (bring a friend to huddle in with you!), and feel the literal vibrations as you get close.

It’s the perfect, cozy Sunday drop-in. Come find your favorite panel—we’re open until 18:00! 🌀✨

What if memory wasn't held only in archives or monuments, but in soil, sound, exiles, microorganisms, mountains, and vibrations?

What if the land itself could remember?

Come spend some time with the many voices that move through 𝓔𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂 𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓶 𝓣𝓻𝓪𝓶𝓹𝓵𝓮𝓭 𝓘𝓼 𝓪 𝓢𝓽𝓪𝓻—voices far and near connected to the Yongsan site in Seoul, separated from it, returning to it, and imagining what it might yet become.

Watch the film. Sit for a while. Lean in close to the vibrating glass. Take your time. Let them resonate.
