𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ‘𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺’.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ‘𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺’. 📸 The Montelbaanstoren is a real eye-catcher along the Amsterdam canals and a striking landmark in the new version of Tycho’s 'Lang Leve Amsterdam'.
In the photograph, Amsterdam-based artist Tycho lies in the canal in front of the Montelbaanstoren, trying to get the Amsterdam flag to flutter in the wind. This tower, dating from 1516, once formed part of the city’s defences but lost its strategic function in 1591. More than a century later it was extended upwards with an octagonal brick structure and the striking spire, both designed by city architect Hendrick de Keyser. Today, this listed monument remains an iconic part of Amsterdam’s cityscape and of Tycho’s photographic work.
This photograph was created especially for the exhibition DRUK, currently on show at the Museum of the Canals. You can admire the photograph as a large-scale print here and purchase one of the 25 limited-edition prints (signed and numbered) in the museum shop.
