This national recognition celebrates museums that create meaningful change within the field while deeply engaging their communities, and affirms the Museum’s ongoing commitment to equality, service, democracy, and progress. Last Friday our Director of Education travelled to William Seward's alma mater, Union College, for the unveiling of a bronze memorial on campus. The bust had quite a journey to Schenectady. Intended to commemorate the bicentennial of Seward's 1820 commencement, the bust was unveiled here in 2020 and due to the pandemic spent the last six years at SHM.

The bronze finally made it to Schenectady last week, where it was placed in Schaffer Library at Union College right next to the College's 1795 charter.

Jeff's talk at the dedication ceremony focused on Seward's Union College education, and how it placed him, in his own words, "at the threshold of national politics."

it's . For Seward House Museum, it is also in 1860 that Abraham Lincoln was chosen on the third ballot to be the Republican nominee at the convention in Chicago. This of course was a disappointment to our man, William Henry Seward, and a shock to Auburn and many throughout the nation.
