Wells Book Arts Center is excited to open a new chapter at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in nearby Geneva, NY in the coming year. Last week, New York State Supreme Court in Cayuga County approved the legacy agreement between Wells College and HWS that includes transfer of Wells Book Arts Center.

You can view more information about the Legacy Agreement at wells.edu/news. We look forward to sharing updates as our timeline evolves!

Wells Book Arts Center mourns the passing of Michael Bixler. Michael taught letterpress at for many years and kept the type cases beautifully stocked while training up new printers. Many Victor Hammer Fellows and past Wells students have spent time learning at the Bixlers’, and many Book Arts Summer Institute participants have visited the shop. Our thoughts are with Winnie. “The world of fine printing and typecasting has lost one of its true icons. Michael Bixler passed away early September 1, 2024 from complications with ongoing heart issues. Details on a memorial will be announced in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s name to the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York / Auburn NY.

Wow!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥 A lot of magic has been happening here in the book arts center by the lake! Keep your eyes peeled as we try to catch up on sharing it with you over the course of the next week or two or three!
